 Painting with ink?

So, I don't have any painting experience but I love drawing with the loose ink pens I have, watching the ink soak into the fabric of the paper...I think I would really enjoy painting with ink, blacks and dark purples on white canvas especially. I'm a total beginner at this, don't really have any visual art "talent" but I do enjoy it and would like to give it a go. What supplies am I going to need and any recommendations on particular ones? Do I want to buy sticks and make my own ink or buy pre-made ink?

Ink painting...save pointillism, is something I've not delved into much. But markers...those are insane. Prisma colors put out great markers available at any school campus or art store. You can ink in a drawing and color them in with the markers. Now, the beautiful thing about prismas are you have all the different shades...so get really light ones and go to town on your drawing without worrying about fucking it up...using the bold ones only where you need shadows/detail.
On any account, ink and markers are a beautiful combo. Just wander on down to an art store and see what you find. They might have some cool ink pen starter set.

Buy some india ink and some thick quality art paper. Not very expensive.

Some good quality brushes, like ones made from camel hair, are good in the long run as well.

I prefer using pens myself as in painting ink really sticks to the paper in a way watercolors don't. It doesn't flow and can't be pushed around once on the paper. A friend of mine says it's me wanting to control it too much and she's probably right. Painting with ink is about letting go and seeing what happens.
From my limited experience I'd say start out with ink in jars and a couple of brushes. try painting on wet paper as well as on dry paper, different dilutions of ink for that "washed" effect and different kinds of paper --newsprint reacts differently than printer paper -- and really get a feel for it.
If it's what you like you can always go out and buy an inkstone and a couple of sticks of ink and try that. It's a different experience and it smells nice.
But for now the best way to start is to begin.
After day one, you'll have stacks of inked paper to throw out and one or two pieces you really like.
Just have fun with it.
