Jiffy Cube Problem. WTF is it now.....
    #8405960 - 05/15/08 04:26 PM (3 months, 21 days ago)

I have hit a small trickle of bad luck with growing here lately. First the tiller broke, than for some damn reason my casings got contaminated, now my jiffy cubes are dampening off.

I have mandrake, mimosa hostilis, syrian rue, e. viridis, khat (separate container w/ peat), and a couple other ethnos just getting fuzzy.

I am wondering if the problem may be because of the dist water I used. I had opened it a week prior to make a citric acid solution. Is it possible that because it was not a "new" jug it could have became contaminated. I am at a loss. I have used hundreds of jiffy cubes and have never had this problem. Ideas anyone?

At least it looks like one hostilis is going to be okay.

EG

you mean damping off? Isn't that mainly caused by excess moisture?

Brianiac is right--Get a small fan for the room. Do you see any cobweb mold too?

I just ordered a mimosa hostilis specimen. Is it difficult to cultivate?

Yeah thats what it seems to be. They get plenty of air. I don't use the dome. Now my cacti seedlings are doing the same thing. My wife has some parsley growing in the window seal w/ the same problem. I am thinking that that is the source for the problem. She over waters or under waters everything lol.

I contacted schultz and they said that there Garden Safe fungicide is safe for cacti seedlings, but I am unsure of what to do with them. I want to get it figured out before I start my peyote seeds.

I only had one Mimosa hostilis come up. I think it is going to be okay.

try spraying some hydrogen peroxide mixed with water on them and I hope those peyote seeds do well

that won't help, once damping off has taken hold and shown it's ugly face you can kiss whatever you're growing goodbye.

Well, I guess I just need to wait and see. I hope its not damping off. Maybe its something else. The cacti seedlings seem to be doing fine in spite of whatever is on them.

BTW: I have heard of ppl using a bleach & water solution on MJ that has mold issues. Well (lol), a friend that doesn't keep things clean and vented tried that. Yeah, that was not a good idea.

heh, you can use a diluted bleach solution to clean your growroom, and i've heard about people using it on their plants as well. I know i wouldn't, don't want to risk smoking some bleach lol.

Mold problems are best solved by pruning, decreasing RH, increasing airflow and circulation, and neem oil. There are a few other types of mold killers out there, but they're chemical based.
