 basic san pedro care

I got this san pedro cactus at a flea market a few months ago.
I've always wanted to try mescaline, but I could never bring myself to chop up this little guy; I'd rather let him grow, get big and strong, then maybe cut off an arm or two. 
So what's the best way to make a san pedro grow fast and/or strong? I keep him in partial sunlight and rarely water him. How often should I water? Should I get him a bigger pot? Any nutrients I can pick up?
All stupid questions, I'm sure, but I've gotta start somewhere and this seems the ideal place.

they like lots of water, good draining soil, and lots of light...they also like to be fertilized...
I would put in full sun, and water every time the soil is dry on the top two or three inches...they like big pots too
if you live in a place it doesn't freeze, I've heard they grow like mad in the ground.
