    #8402009 - 05/14/08 06:25 PM

a poplar sawdust bag colonized with shiitake is pining. i got it in a FC at 20 degrees and 96 % RH. could an excess in RH damage the fruits? what about fruit outdoors?

The excess humidity won't hurt the shrooms a bit as long as they stay in a clean environment. However, if bacteria or mold find a wet (water colleting) spot on a mushie or somewhere in your chamber, you'll have mass destruction of your fruits. Make sure everything stays cleaned in between your use (fruiting cycles) of the chamber and that no standing water is allowed to remain for more than a few hours. Ideally, you will have NO standing water.

Outdoors, you might run across problems with drying out the blocks/fruits (I assume that's what you're using.) Aside from that, outdoors is probably fine also.

If the primordia have already formed lower the humidity to between 80-85% or your risking failure especially if your piping in outside air.. A good thing to do is put a fan in the chamber to circulate the air and provide turbulence such as this. Well worth the 12 bucks I paid for them..
