An anonymous tip led officers to more than 50 marijuana plants and the arrest of a Warner Robins man, a narcotics investigator in the Houston County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.
Kenneth Ray Gainous, 38, of 414 Kingsbury Circle, was charged with manufacturing marijuana, Sgt. James Williams said. Gainous was being held without bond Wednesday.
The tip led narcotics investigators to a vacant home at 122 Heard Drive in Bonaire, where marijuana plants in various growth stages were discovered in the front yard, including several in a little red wagon, Williams said.
In addition to the marijuana plants, investigators confiscated bags of potting soil and yard tools used to tend the illicit crop, the investigator said. The plants were very well cared for, he added.
The home, which is owned by a member of Gainous' family, is located on a dead-end road near Ga. 96 and Moody Road, Williams said.
Investigators also searched Gainous' home on Kingsbury Circle, where marijuana plants, some as tall as two feet, were growing in the back yard, the investigator said.
Investigators also found potting soil spilled in Gainous' bedroom and grow lights often used to grow plants inside the house, Williams said.
Williams estimated the street value of the marijuana plants seized at both locations to be $100,000.
The sheriff's officer encouraged residents to report suspected drug activity to the narcotics unit, noting that tips may be made anonymously, as in this incident.
The anonymous tip came into the code enforcement unit of the sheriff's office, which led Cpl. Shay Little and Williams to the Heard Drive home, he said.
Anyone with information about suspected drug activity may call the sheriff's office at 542-2085.
