Cannabis smoker Smith 'is hypocritical'

Jacqui Smith has admitted that if laws she proposes to introduce on cannabis were in place when she smoked it 25 years ago, she wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) have been able to become Home Secretary.
A caller on BBC’s 5Live took Smith to task over her admission that she had smoked cannabis "a few times".
After the caller asked "At what stage should people be charged for smoking cannabis?" Smith said: "What I’ve said is for young people under 18 you should have a warning, a reprimand and then you should be charged."
The caller interrupted: "Okay, at what point would you have been charged with smoking cannabis? It’s indicative of this government that someone who is in charge of law and order in this country is someone who can’t even tell us how many times she’s smoked it and whether under her own guidelines she’d have been convicted or charged with a criminal offence."
Smith said: "Of course that was a lengthy period of time ago but … I think under my own guidelines had I been caught in possession over 18 I should have been charged."
The caller then asked: "If you were charged with a criminal offence, would you be the Home Secretary?" and Jacqui Smith replied: "No I wouldn’t be. What I did was wrong."
The caller went on: "You wouldn’t have a Treasury Secretary who’d been convicted of stealing in the past or had an offence of putting his hand in a till when he was child working in a shop …"
Smith interjected: "Now let’s be quite clear, I have not been convicted of any offence here. And actually I think I am the right person to do the job of Home Secretary. We’ve got a choice in this country, if you ask a politician a straight question and they give a straight answer, on the whole I think that is a good place for politicians to be. Now I wasn’t responsible 25 years ago for policy around enforcement with respect to cannabis nor, incidentally, 25 years ago was cannabis the sort of strength or doing the sort of harm that it is now, but what I have done is been clear about with my responsibility as Home Secretary where I think we ought to be now with relation to cannabis and I’ve asked the police to be clear about what the enforcement around the possession of cannabis should be as well."
After the caller said Smith was a good politician but hypocritical and sending out the wrong message to children, Smith replied: "This is one of those problems we face as politicians. [Some callers have said] ‘all you politicians you’re out of touch’, when you confess to having done something that unfortunately quite a few people have done, then you also face the consequences. Now I accept that, that’s what political life is about but my job, my priority is what I can do to help to keep this country, its borders, its streets as safe as possible, that’s the job I’ve been given and that’s the job I’m going to get on with doing."
When the caller said his nephews had told him it’s okay to smoke drugs because the Home Secretary did and she didn’t get into trouble, Smith said: "Tell your nephews it is wrong [and] it’s harmful."

So it's about the kids?
Then let us adults take personal responsibility, and stop treating us like fucking criminal scum!

yeah but when you say this people think its ok to be a hypocrite. its not ok but it also is not stoppable....what we need to do is be as little as of it as we can. this same thing is why i don't believe in any religion. because they sit there and say you have to do things that come unnaturally. and that the all natural god has meant for you to go against you carnal desires (that he crated) to make him happy and therefor to make you happy. it makes no sense. i don't understand why people cant just come to terms with the fact that we don't know...and maybe perhaps try to figure it out for yourself...but NOT push it on other people.....wtf
-------------------- The world is like a ride at an amusement park and when you choose to go on it you think it's real, because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round and it has thrills and chills and it's very brightly colored and it's very loud. And it's fun for a while Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question: Is this real? Or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered and they come back to us and they say Hey! Don't worry don't be afraid ever because this is just a ride. And we kill those people.Shut him up! We have a lot invested in this ride! Look at my furrows of worry look at my big bank account and my family. This has to be real.
