Growing Peyote from a cutting

Just took a cutting from a fully grown Peyote, since the bottom of the plant was getting mouldy. What's the next step? The only tutorial I've found says to leave it for a week or so till a callous forms on the bottom, then just place it on some fresh soil in a pot.
However, it seems to me that the cutting will mould if it's just left out for a week. Does anyone know the correct way to grow a new Peyote from a cutting?

never grown peyote, but i do grow pedros and torches, yes, after you cut it you can let it sit for longer than a week, actually, that's what i would recommend, let it sit til the bottom is COMPLETELY dry to the touch, if you want, you can let it sit until roots sprout out of the bottom. that might be the best bet to make sure you don't have any rot when you plant it again. after you let it sit by itself for a few days, when the bottom is good and dry, you can put it in some fine, clean, DRY sand upright and leave it until some new roots start growing, again, that may be the best to handle the rot...
did you grow it from seed? i am wanting to start some from seed and am wondering how easy it was..

As soon as the button sends out tiny roots, place in on some good quality soil. I use a mix of 50% crushed Florida coral (from any pet supply), 25% coarse sand, and 25% topsoil. Sprinkle in a tablespoon or so of bonemeal per gallon of mix. The crushed coral has numerous tiny holes that collect water yet dries quickly.

I didn't grow this particular one from seed, but I have grown others that way. It's incredibly easy and just takes patience. Either just grow 3 or 4 and then expand the supply with cuttings once they're fully grown, or alternatively do what I now wish I'd done and plant like 30 since the seeds are really cheap (so long as they're legal wherever you are).
http://www.xs4all.nl/~knehnav/cultivation.htm That's a pretty decent cultivation guide, though somewhat vague on certain points.
Does it matter where I leave the cutting? Just got it upside down on a chair at the moment.

no it doesn't really matter. Just in a place that's warm and dry. Within two weeks or so it'll start sending out roots. Peyote usually does it's best when neglected so be sure to ignore it.

lava rock will do the same thing he is describing that coral rock does (or is coral just another name for lava rock?) plenty of holes to hold moisture but dry out quickly, creating a nice amount of humidity for the roots i also add some well composted manure to my mix, the 25% topsoil would just be half/half soil/manure

I'm finding that they are amongst the easiest to grow from seed. In my experience they have been easier than the columnar species I'm going with. Especially when it comes to grafting them.

coral rock is essentially crushed Florida limestone and has a lot of calcium and phosphate which peyote love. I'm sure lava rock has its benefits, but I love my crushed coral.

I took two cuttings from different plants. One sprouted a new root within a couple of days and has been planted. The other was cut about 5 days ago and is looking pretty shrivelled and unhealthy but has yet to sprout a root.
Should I put it straight onto some soil or wait a few more days?
