I'm gonna buy a laptop soon, and honestly I don't really want a mac I want an Hp pavillion. But I'm actually considering getting a mac simply for garageband, just cause it's a great recording program that's versatile and easy to use. Does anybody know if there are any comparable programs for windows that are relatively cheap and usable?

Hmm, I use Cubase LE, and it's fine for me.
I've never used any others, so I don't know how it compares

Adobe Audition is pretty straightforward

Audacity is free, simple and works great.
I don't use it for much other than recording sets from vinyl but there's plenty of effects and tweaks, multiple tracks and shit, it's probably versatile enough, depends what you need it for I guess.

I use a freeware program called wavepad for recording and editing audio samples.

it's got basic functions so anyone can use it, but its also got details in professionalism so if you get really good, you can still expand alot.
