maybe you should rethink your views on canada and how well they take care of people, especially foriegners, they dumped 40k mentaly ill people on the street, they did away with government funded subsidized housing and the private sector wasnt willing to help

my personal advice... find a good lawyer, face the time and handle your shit, you knew the penalties and decided to take that gamble, I had a friend that was looking at the same sort of time after selling LSD to a cop, with a public defender the charges were dismissed, the PD just did the job he was supposed to
I was facing 20 years about 20 years ago, I managed to get 2 on probation with a hired lawyer, my rights restored and I get to be a human again.
running seems like an valid option, it's only going to take one fuckup in another country to discover our system is like staying at the hilton

about minorities.
man where I live... the minority known as asian is like the gang base also a lot of people here are asian just generally speaking.
theres black and native / aboriginal gangs but they are chumps, also they're not respected in the general community making them the minorities.
about moving to canada...
unless theres no paper trail of you coming up here you'll get busted.
unless you know someone here that can hook you up with a under the table job you'll get busted
if you don't know someone here to hook you up with said job and don't have enough money to support yourself for a while before you can find that hook up... you'll starve/get busted
basically you need to smuggle yourself over the boarder somehow and work on someones farm shoveling shit into a barn or somehting.
they'll make you work 50+hours a week for a room to stay in and feed you well and probably give you ass for money to do w.e with (im assuming 200$ or less a week over room and food) - I know a couple people who worked on farms / construction sites udner the counter from europe.
moving to mexico
this is a better idea, you can easily get an under the table job there because a lot of them are udner the table.
you can dissapear easier there because of how finding work is and you could stay anywhere basically if you have cash hell you could go up to some random person and give them a 20 to stay with them for a week probably.
my teacher dropped out of college and ran off to mexico illegally and worked as a bar tender for a year... I'm just going by what he told me.

Well, maybe Canada doesn't take very good care of their homeless. But that could work to your advantage. If there are a lot of homeless out on the streets it would be easy to blend in. And if the government isn't helping them (they wouldn't help you either since you're not a citizen) then the private sector must be doing something for these people. It's cold up in Canada and unsheltered homeless people will die. I haven't heard of the homeless dying in mass every winter, so they must be doing something.
Anyhow, advice to go to Mexico is pretty shitty advice unless you already have money. You won't get a job there, there simply aren't any. The jobs that are available pay about $0.50/hr. for hard labor out in the sun. And they wouldn't hire you for those anyway since you're lazy, weak, and don't speak spanish. Even if you could get one of those shit jobs you'd end up sunburned nearly to death.
Getting an under the table job is not hard in any country with a decent employment rate. If you're a hard worker or have construction skills it should be no problem. Cashing checks is not hard either. Many businesses will cash their own checks. Otherwise go to a nearby bar or another business. If they know your boss then they will usually cash checks he has written.
Plenty of people get by just fine doing odd jobs or performing day labor for cash.
I'd consider facing the charges though. What are the details on what the sentencing would be? Most judges give out the minimum if you don't seem to be a total piece of shit. If you're facing a 5 year minimum that probably only means about 2.5-3.5 years actual prison time. That's not really that long compared to running for the rest of your life.

On the federal level and in many states 85% is the minimum inmates must complete if they are not HO or MM sentenced which means they must complete 100%.
On a 5 year sentence most will complete 51 months or 10.2 months on a "year and a day" sentence before being released unless they receive a DR and gain time revoked.

Yeah, it's different in every area. It's pretty common to serve around 75% of a sentence though with time off for good behaviour and getting paroled or early release.

The difference between the substances doesn't matter. This is a war on consciousness, on our right to the very essence of what we are. With no control over that, we have no need to speak of freedom or a free society. -fireseed

> You'd have a hard time cashing a cheque here with no ID.
That depends how resourceful you are. Like I mentioned a lot of places will cash their own payroll checks for you if you ask. Otherwise a nearby business often will also. If you explain that you lost your ID and need to cash your payroll check to get a new one then you can usually get away with it. Go somewhere where they know that the check is good and possibly have even seen you working for the company. Payroll checks aren't nearly as difficult to cash as personal checks.
Also if you are working under the table you'll only be getting paid in cash anyhow.
