 I want to make mutant plants

I want to create weird and cool mutant plants, but without all the crazy lab equipment, anyone have any ideas?

Technically when two different plants of the same species pollinate eachother, the resulting plant is a mutant.

Without 'all the crazy lab shit' itīs gonna be hard.
But you can try to damage your cactus tips in search for monster growth (not guaranteed).

What about sodium azide? I read it causes mutations and you can get it online, but I'm not sure how its used.
or what about EMS, ethyl methane sulphonate during tissue culture?

Ya need a lab for tissue culture. Otherwise all youīll grow is algae and contams.
Tissue culture is very sensitive, like agar work for fungi.

No, that's a fucked up human mentality. Just because someone rapes someone, do you do it too? Think about it mate. How would you like it if someone fed you agent orange? Do you want mutant kids yourself? It is morally and ethically wrong to mess with organisms genetically just for kicks.

Is sexual reproduction ok if we have asexual means to affect the same result?
What is "fucking w/ organisms genetically" exactly?
The folks who like nature and natural things seem to have trouble coming up w/ consistant definitions, I'm curious about what yours.

It's not black or white as to whether it is ok or not, each situation needs careful consideration. It is though, in the very least, more justafiable to modify organisms if there is substantial benefit in it. I never said "fucking with organisms genetically", but it is a close enough approximation and has a pretty obvious mean - creating hybrids, GMO's, etc. Even much of what is done with mushrooms on this forum is pretty unethical, but we'll never see eye to eye on the matter. I'm just saying that creating mutants that are "weird and cool" has no justification. Again would you like yourself, your wife/husband, kids or anyone you love mutated for some persons "weird and cool" kicks?

So how do you delineate what is genetic modification? Again, is sexual reproduction ethical? Or should we only clone if we have the means? Should we be allowed to take antiviral medication, or is that improper from either our or the virus's standpoint?
Is selective breeding wrong, or only random breeding allowed?

Virii are not living. Therefore, taking antiviral medication is not improper.
Selective breeding is different to genetic engineering and hybridisation. Considering the fact that sexual reproduction is natural, whilst cloning (in most multicellular organisms) is not, obviously it is not unethical.

And since we're influencing the DNA sequence of our genome wouldn't that be unethical to take such medicines?
Say you have HIV, the HIV incroporates into your genome. If you take medicine that stops this procedure, you are preventing the HIV from going into our genome. Furhter, the HIV is allready neccesarily in our genome and thus you are preventing part of our genome, HIV infected, with reproducing- isn't this exactly what you say shouldnt' be allowed? And just like sexual reproduction, retroviruses are natural, we all have them, and since most antiretrovirals aren't natural, shouldn't we not interfere w/ the virus and our genomes?

You're taking it out of context. As I said, every situation needs careful consideration, a weighing up the pros and the cons. Obviously, taking an antiviral to save a life is justified. Mutating a plant for shits and giggles is not.

I just think a reduction to absurdity is a valid test of a rule, and I'm not sure what your rule is, and it sounds untenable.

The context is genetically modifying an organism through unnatural means with no justifaction whatsoever, other than for shits and giggles.
Why defend it? It benefits nothing except for a fleeting pleasure of the person doing it. Can you not see how unethical it is to do this? Honestly, don't be arguementative just for the sake of it.
Despite what you said, I do not believe that you would want your wife, kids or anyone you loved mutated for someones fleeting pleasure.
