I'm off the hydrocodone, but have other issues

This is a big step for me. I've been hooked for so long. I could go a few hours without swallowing a few pills. If I went quite a few hours, I would get bad bad withdrawals. It was pretty bad. I went to my doc recently and he gave me something new(including more Norcos, but I haven't filled that prescription). He gave me Amitryptaline. He said it was normally given as a anti depressant, but it was also used to treat other symptoms such as chronic headaches, migraines, trouble sleeping, chronic pain(all of which I have) and other things.
Why am I here? Well, even though I love how the pills have made me feel physically, mentally I feel blank. Like I have no feelings toward anything. I'm not a depressed person. I usually am very emotional, I mean that usually I feel towards everything around me. I just feel stuck in a vacant place right now. Can't think of anything when my mind is usually so full of everything. I think that's why I can't sleep and I get headaches so often, I'm ALWAYS thinking of everything all at once.
Now, there's just nothing. I'd like to feel this way physically without the blank emotion. I almost wish I could feel a little pain, just so I know I'm human.
Any advise?

the blankness could be from the amitripalonapom. the headaches etc could be fixed by keeping hydrated and eating better. do you smoke weed?

You will be ok. Feeling like that is common when trying to get off bad habits. I felt the same way for a while, it just takes a little time to completely recover. suboxone is probably the greatest medication for treating opiate habits. It is hard to give up that mind state of always thinking about and wanting to be on pain killers. But after a week or so of being off them, those feelings go away. It takes time, but you can and will be happy and full of life again. I am actually going through the same sort of problem... This past year was horrible, I felt lifeless. Opiates were the only way to feel normal. I am recovering now, and I am already starting to feel better. So hang in there, Im right there with ya. If you ever need to talk, you can PM me anytime.

Sounds like you need a detox. Start with your body and your mind will follow suit. Don't smoke, drink, or eat drugs for a week, or a month, or however long you can stand it. Eat fresh and raw fruits and veggie with all your meals and lots of water. Excercise your body! Write in a journal so you can see your progress. Or write songs...whatever you love.
Detox. Love your body. If you don't take care of you...who will?
Good luck.

The problem with opiate is it kills pretty much all physical and mental sensation. That means after a nice long bender with opiate, one usually comes out feeling like they are on an emotional rollercoaster. All that time was spent not actively dealing with emotions and feeling because theres no need when a pill can blank you out and make you content. Well the pills eventually stop working and then your stuck needing them to get through days. The real problems start when you try to quit and have to start 'feeling' again. The only way to beat this is to stay sober and get used to it.
I also hated that feeling on opiates, feeling both out of it but also my head would be spinning about this or that. This brought about a huge wave of anxiety when I got off. Eventually your mind will become peaceful once your clean for a while. It is tough but know that each day your getting stronger.
BTW rip up that rx for the dros. And as dan said suboxone is a great way to buy some time to deal with the emotional part without the physical but dont stay on longer than a month! It is a powerful addictive opiate in itself but it does help you sort out your head.

Thank you all for the advise and information. I have to visit with the doctor again in two months for a follow up on how the new pills are affecting me. I've noticed now that I'm starting to feel normal again. I will ask about suboxone and see if that's the right choice for me. My family thinks I should get into rehab. I can't afford that though, if I could, I'd consider it. Until then, I just have to deal with what you guys said....my emotions and trying to keep my will strong enough to stay away from the "wanting" of what the pills do for me(emotionally and physically).
~Much love to all~
