Will/Can myc eat trich?

I have one jar that's roughly 50% colonized but it has trich . There is a little spot of trich at each inoculation hole. I did 6 jars total, only one got trich, others are doing well. Well I let that one jar with the trich keep colonizing in a different spot and it seems like the myc is starting to grow over the trich. I don't plan on birthing this jar anyway but was curious if mycelium can/will overcome a small amount of trich. I bet the inside of the jar where I can't see is probably overrun with trich like that one pic in the contam archives.

You are probably right about the inside of the jar being overrun with trich. Don't waste your time on the jar. Get it out!

Well I still have it. The trich is almost completely covered up/eaten up by mycelium. I plan on letting it go until it is 100% and breaking it up inside a ziplock bag just to see what happens. This will be done outside of course. If it looks good I might spawn it.

I always kind of wondered about this. Every contamed jar that I've ever had has been over taken whether or not the mycelium has colonized more then the contam or not. I've had fully colonized jars have one little speck of black whisker that slowly takes over the jar. All the instances where I've had trich have been a lot of trich before the jars colonize so I don't know much about that. It always seemed odd though that the mycelium doesn't really seem to put up much of a fight against whatever comes around.
I wouldn't break up the jar into a zip lock back. Instead I would wait till it gets fully colonized and then let it sit a few days after that. See if the trich ever recovers and if the mycelium actual kills it off. It could just be growing over it and might emerge later. Let us know what you decide to do. Contams always interest me for some reason

Also I'm not sure if it's grain spawn or pf tek jars but if it's grain spawn i wouldn't use it to knock anything up. The mycelium might cover up the trich but that could still leave spores and I've found that those are bit more resilient then the actual growth

My mycellium had 3 jars with trich, 2 of them fully overcame it and the other only had one small spot left. So I took a lighter to that spot and wallah!
Though opening in your grow area will spread trich spores... they don't have wings so they won't be around forever.
Use Lysol as your WMD!

What happened when you took a lighter to it? BTW the jar (BRF) is roughly 85-90% now. I only had 2 small spots of trich, about the circumference of a cigarette, maybe a bit bigger. They were all powdery, but it doesn't seem to be spreading at all. Thinking the myc is stopping it.
I can barely even see the green anymore, only a small spot, which has some myc starting to grow over it. I probably wouldn't even notice the spot if I just looked now. I see it because I know where it is in the jar. I am only keeping it because I am curious about contams. I have more than enough good jars nearing completion.

That would be trichoderma mycelium, growing from the green spores that used to be visible until they germinated. Toss it. RR

It burned ... lol. Well it didn't spread after putting in the FC, but the main concern is opening it in your house which can contam future projects. I've opened many in my house, just started 20 new jars that are 75% done with 0% contam'd. I just lysol'd the hell out of my area, and used a PC to sterilize the jars.
No contams.
Open at your own risk though.
( If your nervous about it being in your house you could always do the 2 ltr coke bottel FC outside or in your garage. Sort of quarantined. )

I was unaware that trichoderma mycelium is also white. After studying trich a little more I have decided to just get rid of it. Oh well.

I made a casing with colonized WBS, i used cardbard cuz i haven't had luck with peat moss, and vermiculite isn't anywhere to be found round here. I cut it into 1/2 inch or less square pieces and sterilized with steam inside a pot for at least 20 minutes covered.
I figured cardbord would be selective to contams, i was wrong. The mycelium from my cubes stretched out like spidey man, but trich formed nonetheless on the few exposed areas. Ive got pins bout 3 inches high on the edges, none in the middle.
Upon pulling off contamed pieces of cardboard from the middle , I noticed trich had colonized the middle substrate to the bottom. How is this possible?
