My mom says I used to talk about wanting to become a teacher with 13 kids and in my free time I would be a professional golfer.
Since I finished college I sort of considered doing something relating to education and creativity but it hasn't really panned out so far.
Also not much of a golf fan.

She told me that what you dream of growing up to be as a young kid is a relection of who you really are and what your spirit is all about. Where it has been, what it knows, where it belongs...
She asked me what I wanted to become as a kid, but I couldn't remember...
The conversation continued. But after a few minutes I finally remembered!
I wanted to be an astronaut/astronomer.
She said she wanted to be a pilot.
She said that explains why we both want to know whats 'out there'. And why we feel that we need to know about what's 'out there' as much as we need to know about ourselves. It's like oxygen for us.
Unfortunately neither of us pursued our early childhood dreams. I am, however, quite grateful that I have been able to remember this and understand that my passion for the stars was with me since the beginning.

How about you guys?
And if firefighter or nurse is the first thing that pops in your head, try thinking a little harder!
I have a great telescope for sale.

I'm jumping in here without reading anything, but I never dreamed of being anything as a kid. I guess just being as old as my dad back then or just "grown up" seemed inconceivable.
I still don't understand it. I would gladly give up my career and just be a hobbyist/traveler/adventurer/discoverer/thinker, but I guess some people actually prefer to be confined to a particular discipline? I don't get it.

I would love to be these as well... although focus seems to be the only way to do something really well instead of just being the dabbler I've been all my life.

My dream was the same as yours. I used to stay home from school to watch shuttle launches, and collected as much space memorabilia crap as I could find. Read books, star charts, bought a telescope, etc. Then I found out you pretty much have to join the air force to be an astronaut. THEN I saw the Challenger blow up, live on tv. Then I didn't much want to be an astronaut anymore.
Now I kind of regret my early decision to give up that dream. Oh well.

'So you broke your watch?'
More like I abandoned watch to go investigate what I thought was a not unimportant disturbance in the dune grass off to the west. A prolific potency with power and agency. The Scarab and Phoenix?? Shit yo, get me a Kleenex.

Depends on what you mean by really well? The dabbler may have a more enjoyable experience.

As a kid I remember wanting to be a truck driver (specifically a Canadian Tire truck driver), an archeologist, a paleontologist, a diver, an alpinist or a circus artist at one point or the other. I was also very intrigued by numbers, maps and atlas. Yeah, makes me ponder because I'm none of the above, thanks

Hmmm..
Now that I think about it. I never really was too concerned with what I wanted to be. In roughly chronological order:
Paleontologist Archaeologist Fighter pilot Rock star
-------------------- -oOo-
A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall. Speak what you think now in hard words, and to-morrow speak what to-morrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict every thing you said to-day. -- `Ah, so you shall be sure to be misunderstood.' -- Is it so bad, then, to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood.

i always wanted to be a paleontologist. i was fascinated by dinosaurs and wanted to know everything about them. i would often fancy myself in an archaeologist's get-up, dusting away at a pile of ancient bones.
eventually, my views turned to cartoon voice-overs. i practiced for years and years, emulating everything within my range.
and damned if it hasn't payed off. i'm getting into voice-overs nowadays. done a few cartoons. they haven't gone anywhere, but i have done them nonetheless. i'll just bide my time.. awaiting the moment one of my projects takes off.
one out of two ain't bad

Nice. This thread made me smile. I am a 27 year old mommy, and I haven't thought about it in sometime, but I only really ever wished to be a mommy when I grew up. Now I can say that I am a success, and achieved my childhood dreams huh?

Now I remember. More than other occupation, I wanted to be a minister. I wanted to help people. I was too afraid to go through with it though. It's weird because I've never been very religious. After my bout of contempt for religion in college I simply wanted to be a great orator.
