Electric Pressure Cookers
    #8398252 - 05/13/08 08:11 PM (3 months, 23 days ago)

anybody had any experience with these? i am specifically wondering how they would work to pasteurize a bulk (both have a temp hold function), and at what estimated pressures they might cook at.

Deni Brand

Cuisinart Brand

I am interested in these since i am also in the market for a crock pot (mmm, crock pots:tongue:), kinda knock out two birds with one stone. also hoping the temp hold function will work well for pasteurization.

those look REALLY small, and very expensive. a good 20+ quart PC should cost you around 70$ and will be able to do several hefty bags, or aroudn 8-10 jars. not even sure you could fit anything but maybe 2-3 half pints?

the dimensions for the cuisinart are 13" wide by 14.6" tall (i assume those to be outside dimensions), as opposed to the all american 21 quart which is 15" wide by 16" tall. the all american can hold 7 quart jars, so i was hoping this one could hold 3.

you can find the cuisinart for $100 shipped, so not cheap but not terrible and it would be a kick as crock pot. maybe a pipe dream though.

my problem with a stove top canner is that i have a electric range with a glass top, and it kinde sucks. i am worried that i won't be able to get a larger canner up to temp/pressure.

Shaft, trust me, glass top electrics present NO problem with large canners lol even 2 at the same time will work juuuust fine. I say spend less money, and don't sell yourself short, get a dedicated PC. It'll make life much easier. You gotta think a PC isn't even an inch thick, those exterior dimensions are almost the same inside...I have a feeling the crock/PC will be quite thick and probably have a much smaller interior dimension
