Water softener + tap water for substrait

Well, im a first time grower of the little guys and think I might have made a mistake. Without thinking, I followed the directions to make the substrate (using rye berries) and used tap water. Not until after I PCed the jars did I think about the tap water I was using- it was filled with salt from a water softener!
The salt collected on the outside of the jars and on my PCer, but my question is: Does using salt water in substrate doom my shrooms? I HAVNT inoculated yet, as I have waited a few days to verify that my jars were contam free and so far nothing has grown.
Can shrooms grow in substrate that was made with soft water or should I make my jars over?

I've used tap water, no problem with that.

you really shouldn't wait for a few days to verify that no contams are growing, because all you are doing is allowing for contams to get a hold instead of the mycelium.

Tom, when you use tap water is it hard water or soft? The difference is soft water is just hard water with salt mixed in... thats the same water I used in my jars (the water + salt mix).
From what I understand about salt, it is a preservative that kills bacteria on food. If you pack food in enough salt it will preserve it by killing all of the bacteria and fungus that would otherwise spoil the food.
Now, knowing that shrooms are a fungus and that salt kills fungus...
Should I re-make my jars with bottled water (or at least hard water)?

Does it have salty taste also? I really don't know about the difference and what is used around here. I know that here it contains chlorine and any stuff that's used to make it drinkable, it also makes a lot of Limescale -(the coating that forms inside kettle. calcium?) when boiled.
Anyway, i say Give It A Try!
