how tight should my jar lids be when iam sterilizing them in a pot ,halfway,all the way tight,thank u for your help

not all the way, it might pop. i would make it half way and when it cools down then i tighten it all the way.

I have never had a jar top pop. They should be tight so that water doesnt get in and screw up the jars.

Depends, do you have your holes covered with tape? If so then you don't want it tight it will cause a vacuum that could suck contaminated air into the jar when you insert the syringe. Tighten halfway and make sure you have tin foil on the jar.

OR just don't put tape on the lids, if you have a vermiculite layer the tape is unnecessary, wrap in tin foil and tighten the lids on all the way.
