One of the better sampled albums of all time IMO, up with DJ Shadow's Endtroducing...

The Good Life - Album of the Year
Guy from Cursive starts a side project where he focuses more on folk rock than anything else. Great lyrics, great music, great CD overall.

Pinback - Blue Screen Life
So I love Pinback, a lot and this is one of their best CDs. Their music is lightly tinged with electronica and accompanied with beautiful harmonies and soft vocals. Definitely worth a download.

Thee More Shallows - Book of Bad Breaks
Some experimental rock from SF, they're on Anticon with artists like Why? A pretty solid album, but there's a few filler tracks that don't seem to have much to offer, luckily they make up for it with the songs that do it right.

Norfolk & Western - Dusk in Cold Parlours
Portland folk group, I think you can get an idea what they'd sound like from those first three adjectives. Mostly slow, good, slightly weird folk music.

Xiu Xiu - Fabulous Muscles
Weird. Group from Oakland makes experimental rock music, this album is one of his most accessible but still requires an open mind once you get past the first two tracks.

Pinback - Pinback
Another really good Pinback CD, quite similar to the first Pinback CD I uploaded.

Professor Murder - Professor Murder Rides the Subway
Group from Brooklyn, heavy on bass and electronics, dancetastic and mighty catchy.

Voxtrot - Raised by Wolves
This Austin group makes perfect pop music in my opinion, super catchy and happy, great spring time music, try it out.

Carissa's Wierd - Songs About Leaving
Yes the name is spelled incorrectly on purpose. This is a now defunct Seattle group that made some of the most beautiful slowcore music to ever exist during their somewhat short existence. Most of the members went on to other things (Band of Horses, Grand Archives etc) but this CD is probably my favorite of theirs. Beautiful harmonies, piano, and violin, and whispery vocals. If that sounds good to you then give it a listen, it's a perfect CD to fall asleep to or to sit back and relax to late at night.

Ted Leo & the Pharmacists - The Tyranny of Distance
My favorite Ted Leo CD, just a simple indie rock album, but this is a great example of rock done well without trying to do too much. Many many good tracks on it, great overall CD, try it!

The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?
I feel like there's a pretty good chance this is has been upped before, just because it's a pretty necessary listen to anyone who likes independent music, especially of they enjoy independent electronic music. Just a fucking incredible CD, I can't say enough about it, trust me on this one. Oh yeah, and if you like Islands they rose from the ashes of this band.

portland, oregon’s the battle of land and sea create lush, dreamy, whimsical folk songs that bring back past memories of mazzy star. together singer/songwriter sarah o’shura and guitarist joshua canny share in experiences from their past and relate them into the future. after forming in 2006 and placing a few songs on myspace, they were signed to nontenuf records and recently, released their self-titled debut with cover artwork by mel kadel.
