Wild Texas aka ps.menace - now my first experiment in shroom foods
    #8395514 - 05/13/08 04:50 AM (7 months, 24 days ago)

P.Menaces prints, first "round" he sent.

I just thought Id share this cake. At first, I thought it was contaminated, so I isolated it in its own container, just a little water pooling in the bottom, no concern for light, but I have been giving it air several times per day (in front of an exhaust fan at first).

Turns out, it either ate my suspected contam, or I was wrong. Anyway, These pins are anything but the scrawny things shown in PMs first attempts, the one pin is actually meatier than my B+, and theres a mess of new pin sites forming that you just cant see in the pic!

3 days after birth

Updated Pics (4 days):
I did not expect it to grow this much overnight - so much for getting it out of that plastic jug again.

Update Day 5:

I will probably be picking them at some point today. I just want the decent one at the top to open so I can print it! Heres two different views, so you can see whats going on 'below'.

Picked!

Second flush, still no dunks! Just injected water into the cake.

... and flush 2 has been picked. The mushrooms arent as big, but theres more of them! Now this tired, bruised and beaten cake is getting a well deserved dunk - in coffee. I dont think they will appreciate CoffeeMate creamer, so its black coffee for the poor guys. Im going to take the biggest two shrooms and see if they are as strong at that first flush

I got those spores from the first round of P.Menace's print giveaway as well, jars are colonizing at present. Very vigorous rhizomorphic mycelium. Kudos to Menace for the prints. Really interested to see how this lot turns out, Menace's grow had substanitally mixed results! Hopefully we see some more of those bi-coloured caps too!

Ya, I thought so, too. Some of the pins are now showing that "wavy" tenancy around the edges of the soon-to-be caps, like P.Menace's grows exhibited, tho.

Thanks for all the Kind words guys... Homie get us up some new pics soon, that motha's gonna take off like wild fire in a day or 2:grin:

Cant wait to see if you get the wavy caps right away or in the later flushes like me.

It had to have colonized pretty fast seeing as how I sent those prints out only less than a month ago, you must have started right away when it got there.

Keep up all the good work

It did colonize pretty fast, but it was the slowest of the jars to the finish. It started out with a spiderweb of myc ropes up to 3 inches long, and it crept around like this for a while, but then one day it spontaneously filled in between all the ropes, and started primordia on the bottom, so I cracked it open.

It looks like Im going to have at least one wavy, two-tone cap, and the monster has a cap deformity, but its ok, I like freaks.

As for 'take off': too late. It already has. The plan was to take them out of the "safety box" today, and put into a proper fruiting chamber, if it doesnt stink or anything else, but its too late. I dont think Ill be able to get it out of the container anymore without breaking things. Now Im going to have a lot of weird curvy mushrooms.

BTW - I did NOT dunk this cake, but I have been actively keeping it hydrated by spraying it to the point of wetness, and injecting water into the substrate.

Thanks again for the print!

Cool! I can't wait to mess with these...the crazy colonization sounds like the opposite of what I've observed in two other strains. You gonna clone the big boy?

Id personally get a little more FAE in there:wink: They will love you for it, also dont spray the fruits directly, they will blue up and rot away in a day

and just wait to clone... wait for the 3rd or 4th flush, thats where youll see the true nature of this strain

Nice to see:thumbup: Keep up the good effort Homie

These guys look more like cubes than some of my cubes do. I expect thats the best you're going to get for an ID; "ps. cubensis".

We can sit here and ponder on what variant they look like all day long, but the variants are just domesticated and/or isolated family lines (which is only now being done with these, so they dont have a 'strain' yet) with some discernible traits, so in the end - its a cube. I think you should just lay a name on them and I will hope you dont pick "wavy gravy".
