Quite the read. It seems calorie restriction has proven to be beneficial to all organisms that have been studied about such affects.
No large studies have occurred with humans, but it has with rhesus monkeys. Longer life span, less aging, and less susceptibility to disease.
Food for thought.

I can't look at the monkey on the left without cracking up. His expression is priceless.

This article gives me more inspiration to eat less and stop being a fatass. Thanks

The same is true for rat. They are healthier and live longer with caloric restriction.

I've read about this too. There were actually experiments done on worms in the 1930's where the researchers split the earthworms into two groups. One group was fed normally, but the other was given no food for long periods of time until the earthworms' size started to decrease (starvation). The group that was deprived of food outlived the control group by up to 19 generations. That's the equivalent of a human living to 600 or 700 years old!
There's hype about water fasting, too. You only consume water for a set period of time (3, 10, 40, even 60 days). The basis is that since the body doesn't have to digest anything (a very energy intensive process), it can divert its energy to doing housekeeping and healing the body. Cancer cells are broken apart for energy, toxins (pesticides and chemicals) trapped in fat are excreted from the body, and so on.
When you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Our bodies evolved to go without food for long periods of time. Our ancestors of 30,000 years ago didn't eat three square meals a day. They would have to go without food for a month at times. Evolution designed our bodies to be able to handle this and even started using those free times without digestion to fix the body. Now we eat all day and the digestion never ends until we die. The body wasn't designed for this. It's like driving a car 100,000 miles without ever changing the oil - it just wasn't designed for that. And we wonder why cancer and heart disease are so prevalent.
Anyway, I'm planning a 10-day water fast soon, so I guess I'll see how I feel after it's over.

It can be healthy to go days without water... seems weird.
I always thought it was a liter a day that you were supposed to drink or something like that :S.
I generally drink when I'm thirsty...

I drink my body weight in oz's of water every day. Then again, i'm tryin to clean THC out of my body in 13 days...
This article has definitely provided food for thought. my friend is doing a cleansing fast right now (dont know much about it) but it involves drinking a lemonaide-type liquid all day for two weeks or something to that effect.
I'm considering giving it a try if her results are positive.

You may be trying to clean THC out, but you're not that far off from what you should be drinking each day. The average person is dehydrated most of the time. I've read you should drink about 2/3's your body weight in ounces a day. If you're an avid smoker, I'd be skeptical about getting that THC out in only 13 days. Hopefully you don't have an important test you need to pass. If you stop eating in conjunction with drinking the water, as you mentioned, you might just make it because your body will start breaking down all the fat cells that harbor the THC and eliminate it from your body quickly.
