New meth recipe leads to growth in labs

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say drug makers have a new recipe for methamphetamine, and that's led to an increase in meth labs in Alabama.
Police saw a decrease in methamphetamine production in the state after a law took effect in 2005 to make it harder to purchase key ingredients for the drug.
But agents say many drug makers have switched to an easier cooking method that takes fewer ingredients. And that's led to an increase in the number of meth labs.
More meth cooks in the past year have started using a simpler, "one-pot" cooking method that takes fewer ingredients and can be mostly completed in a two-liter plastic soft drink bottle, authorities say.
Jason Murray, commander of the Talladega County Drug Task Force, said his agents have found 70 of the "one-pot," or "shake and bake," meth labs since October.
The Drug Enforcement Administration estimates about 135 of the new labs have been reported since October. Additional ones were found in the state that weren't reported to the federal agency.
The DEA says the number of meth labs in Alabama fell from a peak of 385 in 2004 to 127 in 2007.

You guys have no idea how common meth is here in AL. I used to work at a low-level grocery store a couple of years ago and I would bet you everything that I own that half the people that shopped there were meth heads. If they were skinny, wearing rags for clothes, and buying aluminum foil, you could bet your ass that they would be buying Red Devil Lye or Iodine the next time they came in.
There has been more houses explode from clumsy meth cookers than there has been car accidents. To give you an idea of how common it is, the area that I live at has been nicknamed Meth Mountain. A word of advice for all of you out there, don't ever... ever, ever, ever smoke meth. Ever. It will absolutely TRASH your life.

meth wont ruin your life, make you crazy, make you delusional, or make you physically aggressive!
the fact that people stay up for weeks on end, and dont eat, accounts for most of these effects!
no sleep and no food will make anyone fuckin looney tunes.

okays here go the emthod you but alot of balled up aluminum foil in a two liter soda bottle and fill 50 50 with drano shake it as long and hard as you can preferabally days but crystal devolop because of the aluminum alkaloids and can be dryed out and smoked

Are the referring to the old biker method, using the mercury/aluminum amalgamation on P2P? Although a nice method, as you end up with 100% d-isomer, it is more difficult that most, thus I doubt this is what they are talking about. Regardless, odd that they would start with P2P, as it is difficult to get in the US.

I know several people who are hugely successful, use meth on nearly a daily basis, and are quite healthy. They just don't stay up days on end, they eat well and exercise. Looking at these people you would never know they're meth addicts.

Most people who started smoking speed when it first got big knew cookers and had access to buckets of the shit at any given time. I live in one of the biggest methamphetamine counties in the country and i know that's how it started around here. You can't even hardly buy the shit from dealers now because they've already made assloads of money when it was easy to get pills and now all they want is pills to make more speed for themselves.
I have a friend that i worked with who told me that around 1999-2002 he and a couple buddies would take trips down to Tennessee and Indiana and buy cartfuls of Sudafed. They'd get about 600,000 pills and bring them back up to good ole' Missouri and were given access to all the money and speed that they could handle.
Pseudoephedrine is the ingredient that's harder to buy now. I know in my county you can't buy more than 2 boxes per month at any given store and when you do buy pills, you have to hand over your driver's license so they can enter your name into a database that the local law enforcement and their buddies have constant access to. Buy too many boxes in too small of a time frame and you'll have DEA agents and sheriff's deputies driving by and parked outside your house an awful lot out here.
I've smoked red and black, anhydrous, and ice several times with no noticeable after effects. I just feel like i'm on a super-rush cocaine high for hours on end and it's like instant energy. I just can't live the lifestyle of my tweeker buddies who stay up for 2 weeks on end and can't answer the door because they're too freaked out. I won't deny that it's probably not the best drug to do, though, considering the agents used to manufacture it and the fact that it's a bunch of chemicals that just get your brain off. If you decide to try the stuff, just don't become a tweeker.
