Karma is so chaotic that I tend to put it aside as a thought.. It's easy to prove, and easy to disprove, it's just one of those mysterious "things."
If it gives you ease of mind, so be it, but I'd rather place my faith in action.. If I were you, I'd load a paintball gun with marbles, drive by the guys place, and dent up his car, shoot his windows out, and speed away.. He fucked you over, fuck him back..
If you recieve negative karma? So what, you will get it no matter what, based on the theory of how it works.. Peace of mind comes either way.

I'd say, don't worry it was just $40, but you may as well talk to the guy, why do you have to be violent about it? Over the years Ive realized violence is really unnecessary in some situations where you could figure it out a smarter way. Because say, you went over there he didn't give you the money you kicked the shit out of him got your money back, what does that prove? you've done something worse than what he has actual done, is bashing someone actually worth $40? Ive heard of 2 poeople killing each other over $20, people just take shit to far and it is pointless.
For all it's worth talk to the guy, tell him you want your money back, don't make it violent, even if he does have a gun or not there's no point for violence because he probably wouldn't shoot you for $40. If He does not refund your money then tell him karma's coming around, because does the karma he gets really exist if he doesn't know who the karma is coming from? haha if you catch my drift.

What you need is a good lawyer. The kind who will put a horses' severed head in the thief's bed. Realistically though, these types of things happen sometimes. Sometimes you'll get reimbursed (plus extra for your patience and trouble), sometimes you won't. If you choose the violence route, don't take anything, because the cycle will then continue. Be patient, and if things don't work out, do what you will. I agree that if karma as an independent force doesn't assert itself after a reasonable time, you can appoint yourself a karmic deputy on occasion. If you beat the man, don't take a penny. Gets the point across better.

I went to a festival once and managed to get 7 1/2 hits of paper "acid". Some were given for free, some I paid for ($10.00 a hit). I started eating two at a time around noon, by 4:00 PM I realized it was all worthless.
So, I just reached into my backpack, grabbed a handful of mushies, and away I went!!
I now feel that whenever someone says, "I have/can get acid" (REAL acid, not the other stuff that mimics it), I immediately call shenanigans.
