Camus, Albert; "The Stranger" Celine, Louis-Ferdinand; "Journey to the End of the Night" Eliot, T.S; "The Waste Land" Hesse, Herman; "Siddartha" Hofstadter, Douglas; "I Am A Strange Loop" Joyce, James; "Finnigan's Wake" Kafka, Franz; "Metamorphosis" Nietzsche, Friedrich; "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" Stirner, Max; "The Ego and It's Own"
^^ some of the most important literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, IMO. Each of those is also an exceptionally enrichening read, that I cannot recommend enough to anyone.

Blue Monday: Fats Domino and the Lost Dawn of Rock 'n Roll by Rick Coleman. Good read, slightly biased in the opposite direction than you would usually read (at least earlier, I guess now people like this are starting to get their recognition.)
Don't bother if you're not interested in rock history and roots, it's Fats' biography.

Lame Deer, Seeker of Visions - by, Richard Erdoes. Got me into Native Spirituality.. a subject I was stuck in for months.
The Long Walk - by, Slawomir Rawicz. Greatest escape story ever told. Better than Papillon.
The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat - by, Oliver Sacks. Awesome, short essays about bizarre psychiatric disorders.

The original Dune novels are my favorite books. If you read the whole series its a beautiful story about the evolution of humanity.
