Yeah, true. But fucking Thor is much more badass than Yahweh. Yahweh is too shy to even show his face to those who disavow toast. Thor has a hammer. Science is not based on Cartesian Logic. Thats Descartes.
Science is based on empirical evidence and theories based on such empirical data collected from standardized real-world situations.
Philosophy attempts to find truth for/from internal speculation and logistical loops.
Spirituality searches for higher answers in personally vindicating ways and often focuses on abstractions and personally rewarding sensational experience.
Religion retards all of these above.
Many of us here have had similar experiences to those described by Jesus when he's not in the middle of an arrogant, socio pathological, megalomaniacal rant about killing your neighbor for working on Saturday.
And religion is supposed to be 'immune' from criticism?
Science brought us vaccines and religion brought us honor killings and witch-hunts. I'm sure many have felt true spiritual bliss from what they count as religion. But being a reformed Christian, I have the right as you would to say the joys are just as well and rewarding, and most certainly clearer, when you allow your thinking to be free.
Once again, this is not a personal attack. My way of 'touching god' whatever the fuck that means lands me in jail while religious ways of talking to god ignores real problems. Due credit, science saves lives. Religion ends them. This is indisputable regardless of one's ability to disregard their own reality, and any other profess is dangerously ignorant in a society where an extremist country can build a hydrogen bomb!

Faith is absurd:
belief in something that has no evidence or has actually been proven to be incorrect and yet believing it all the more strongly because 'you just know'
(or more correctly you have been conditioned through whatever reasons; social pressure/in-group altruism/parents etc, to ignore mountains of factual evidence without any personal understanding.
so you would rather live in a vacuum of happy ignorance?
faith is just a huge nonchalant shrug of the shoulders, just a giving up and pinning any yet unsolved mystery to a Deity..

Yes I would, by what I presume to be your definition of the word "ignorance". Again, I don't see truth as a legitimate human pursuit. Even from the scientific perspective I formerly embraced, we have no claim to truth; we can make vague approximations based on the immeasurably minute stimuli that enter our brains, but so much isn't and indeed can't be known.
Why not skip the uncertainty and embrace what one genuinely wants to believe, what will better the human condition -- life on Planet earth as a whole even, what just might in fact lead to sincere bliss?

What one wants is often involves infringement on another. I want to fuck that beautiful girl, she does not reciprocate, and I rape her? Or I want a uniform belief across a culture, threaten the sentient agents with a vengeful wrath of a literary figure taken too seriously, and if a few are exterminated due to the resulting intolerance, fuck it.
There is much claim to truth. Giving a gift too your mother is more loving than killing her. There will always be mitigating factors. This is why the static set laws of religious world-views extended to societal settings in a fluid, dynamic, and changing universe will ALWAYS be wrong more of the time than not. Things must be taken on individual bases; or again we come to pre-judging. The logic has become circular.
And if ignorace and a defeatists attitude toward REAL knowledge and revelation leads to severe bliss it is in the same regard that opiates do the same thing before taking your entire free-will and life away from you.
Some of us would rather live in a cold, stark, uncomfortable place than live with the subconscious knowledge that we are lying to ourselves about what we KNOW is right.
Maybe YOU have no claim to truth. I am a limb of a self-observing and organizing universe and I'll make claim to whatever motherfucking truth about myself, being part of such named self-organizing universe that I want to. I someone else wants to ignore their condition and the world around them choosing to resort to comfort and familiarity that is, again their prerogative.
BUT UNTIL THESE ORGANIZATIONS KEEP IT THE FUCK TO THEMSELVES THEY ALL DESERVE THE HELL THEY SO HONESTLY WISH FOR!
Leave the rest of us the fuck alone. And that is NOT being done.
And 'truth' and 'real knowledge', Thor, just sayin'...
