That was disgraceful. It seems to be some kind of wrestling. They didnt use any chokes or locks which i would expect to see in ju jitsu. He seemed to be getting points just for staying on top of the guy.

I've taken Karate, believe it or not, a lot of dojos mix their karate with jujitsu and other forms these days, mostly because fighting is so dirty... They purposely train their students to employ a healthy barrage of different skills to avoid injury..
When I took it, (the standardized isshin-tryu) I was taught knife fighting, use of the bo staff, jo staff, sai, and various other weapons, jujitsu techniques, and even aikido techniques.
I've been in numerous unnoficial tournaments and believe me, things have changed! The fact that he was able to keep the guy down is enough! Compare it to a life threatening situation where law would be in place! Even though the guy shit his pants, he did good, even though it wasn't very graceful..

I took Aikido - it was very fun, but not very practical unless taken for many years (however, once that point was reached, it was extremely useful).

i took aikido for a little while too, and i also found it pretty useless. i dont feel like spending 5 years learning something before it becomes useful.
