"Our God is an awesome God" - Christian song refrain

Not sure if I get this. If there is only one God, then it is impossible to tell if he is awesome or not as there is nothing to compare to.
In another thread we discovered that God sucks at dealing with diabetes and compassion and responding to prayer. Doesn't seem particularly awesome; more like apathetic.
Perhaps they are comparing their God to other religion's lesser Gods, but that shoots down the one God theory.

If their God inspires them with awe, why would they need a comparative God?

Bingo.
In other words, Our God is an AWE-FULL God!

I hear Christians are renowned for their creative song lyrics.
-------------------- Images of broken light which
dance before me like a million eyes
That call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a
restless wind inside a letter box
they tumble blindly as
they make their way across the universe

Well, they've always got Satan. It's bipolar, but that is how humans are. If only one can be the highest, then all others must not be highest.

this could go on forever, like how if I said how can there be a satan, if god created everything why would he create hell and satan? oh right so he could send all the sinners to him.. but then he would be working with the devil and be sinning himself.

Is it just for sport, or is there some other benefit?

Trying to understand if there are multiple Gods in the Christian universe and that they happen to believe their God is the most powerful and awesome God; whereas your God is puny and not really worthy of worship.
If there is only one God, then comparing itself to itself makes no sense.

The god of Judeo-Christian traditions is not the ONLY god. The Torah acknowledges the existence of other gods, and the Jewish people at times would worship other gods, like Baal, a deity that is still respected today as an opponent entity to Christianity.
Judeo-Christian beliefs only requires that you WORSHIP one god. The existence of other gods is acknowledged. Monotheism hasn't really been traditionally a unity of pantheons, but rather the exclusionary practice of the worship of only one deity.
In recent times Christian belief has been more attentive to the unifying principle of monotheism, but that really isn't supported by most scripture. It's a strange religion.

Also "awesome" is not used in a comparative context. Something completely unique could be awesome.
Awesome simply means something that inspires awe.

"Do not have any other gods before me."
God sounds a bit worried that he will lose his earthlings.

After Cervantes reply, I checked the etymology. Awesome, and awful basically mean the same thing. Calling God awesome is an acknowledgement of fear. Awe is akin to dread.
