 NORML-your opinion?

So, what do you guys think about NORML? Useful? or a waste of time that will never make a difference? Personally I think NORML should spend the millions donated for DOING something rather then just talking about it. Maybe a line of commercials that speak truth (instead of shameless fear tactics) or something that will reach a larger audience and make sheeple think.

What's norml's plans for Nevada when we vote for our new laws? We lost by a margin of 4% on the last vote to legalize marijuana, if you think about that, that's pretty good! 46% voted yes to legalization, 54% voted no. I think people are starting to open their eyes here. If this had been 15 years ago, that would have been 20% voting yes.

Well there's something I didn't think about...
If the content was limited to facts about the global and medicinal benefits of hemp and marijuana, and didn't reference personal use of the plant, then I am there is a channel that would run the ads for enough $$'s. Even if it must be limited to cable, that's still a much larger segment of the population then are being reached now.

Awareness is an excellent agenda and I think that in general there is an increasing movement towards tolerance towards recreational cannabis use. First, train yourself to get suspicious every time you see simplicity. Any claim that the root of a problem is simple should be treated the same as a claim that the root of a problem is Bigfoot. Simplicity and Bigfoot are found in the real world with about the same frequency.
So reject binary thinking of "good vs. bad" or "us vs. them." Know problems cannot be solved with clever slogans and over-simplified step-by-step programs.

good point.
from my understanding, norml has lawyers that are members that are fighting to make marijuana legal. im guessing thats what got California its medical marijuana license.
IMO: i don't think one should be sick in order to be healed. its always good to try to prevent sickness my taking certain measures like smoking weed and what not.
i would also like to see a campaign on TV boosting that opinion i just mentioned
i feel that they do there job tho, at least their is some type of org for marijuana that is well known and supported.

That commercial was just weird... I am glad that people and Maryland got to watch it and be confused some time last year though. To the guy who posted it and then insinuated that any user of marijuana who is unhappy with marijuana laws is wasting time if not a member of NORML: Do you realize just how useless that commercial was? to compare marijuana to prescription medications is an insult to the miracle that is pot? Ridiculous! While NORML's very well-paid lawyers are wasting time in Washington, the masses continue to be brainwshed from childhood with programs such as DARE which tell them that marijuana use is not just comparable to but equivalent to meth and heroin use.
Public awareness of the true nature of marijuana is urgently needed if the lawyers are ever going to succeed at changing any laws.

Well I'm not saying that this commercial is the be-all end-all of pot legalization efforts, far from it. Someone asked if they could run something, they have, I inform.
I agree with you it's a hokey commercial, of all the things they could have done, but all in all its not so bad.
Consider-- first of all, the commercial is a small part of their budget and is just one thing they do\have done. Yes, it cost money, but I still stand by the fact that if you smoke pot and you want it to be legal, you need to support the organizations working to make that happen. Period. If you think the commercial was no good then make your opinion known as a member.
Secondly, while I agree with you on the larger, special nature of cannabis you need to remove yourself from your stoner position with stoner friends (presumably) and sit down with that mindset you just described-- that cannabis is the destroyer of worlds. The commercial highlights marijuana as a MEDICINE rather than a demon drug by comparing it with better accepted prescription medications. Get into the mindset of their target audience. That audience will not accept marijuana as a 'miracle'. That audience will not absorb studies and statistics via commercial very well either-- at first. They will, in 30 seconds, take away the 'oh its just cannabis' attitude or it will create a conflict within them, and that is an excellent place to start.

I think you misunderstand why I call hemp and marijuana a miracle. From cleaner burning fuel to cancer treatment, hemp and medicinal marijuana are a fast growing, easily renewable, and taxable, resource, and a clear cut path to a complete weaning from the oil teat.... Not to mention millions of jobs, billions in revenues and taxes from recreational use per year, were legalization to happen... Marijuana could save this country, and many others, from the horrible debt, environmental destruction, and general assholish-ness that plague them. Somebody get that Dick Cheney a bonghit, fuck...
