California lawmakers are targeting a hallucinogenic herb called salvia divinorum that is widely available here on the Central Coast and is legal in California for adults and minors. They want to make the use or sale of salvia among those under 18 a misdemeanor.
Though the drug has been around for a while, only recently has it become popular among today’s teenagers and young adults. Salvia can be found at local smoke shops as well as on Internet sites, including eBay.
The effect of the drug is often compared to the high from LSD or PCP, but usually only lasts for a few minutes, often impairing judgment and body movements. Many users say the drug induces an intense out-of-body experience, but is not addictive.
The federal government is grappling with whether to classify Salvia a controlled substance, while many states have already placed restrictions on the herb.
So far there are not studies that show salvia is addictive or causes any lasting neurological damage, but many say it could be too early to draw any conclusions, since there have been few studies on the herb. On the other hand, some researchers are looking into possible health benefits of the drug, saying it may possibly help with depression.

I am in favor of an 18+ law (or similar age) because it makes it less likely that absolute prohibition will occur.

I think the way our society works that yes... it would be wise to have an 18+ law for salvia. But that goes against my feeling that there should be no laws about any drugs.. we should just educate our children better. and hopefully places that sell/trade salvia would feel a moral obligation to either not sell to minors or only to those that they really felt could handle it.
p.s. im high for the first time in weeks so... i hope that makes sense

The effects are not comparable to lsd or PCP at all.
Glad I live where no one cares and no articles have been released that ive seen on it.
