Yeah, they enjoy it, mostly likely oblivious to the fact they are harming and torturing their prey....
If the birds would embrace the "fight" part of "fight or flight", it might be a different story....
And then I might not be here anymore, or I might be here with only one functioning eye.... :pirate: :frown:
***sniffle sniffle***

Orcas must be the cats of the sea, as they also seemingly needlessly "torture" their prey in an observably enjoyable way, in much the same way as a cat does....!
If you ask me, I think orcas are more evil than cats....
But that *might* be a biased little proclamation on my part.... :smirk:

My girlfriend must like it when I bat her around else she wouldn't keep coming back. She does need to put some make-up on that shiner though - very unattractive.

I'd guess cats get a big rush from the hunt, and doesn't want the fun to end. I'd let that cat eat that bird.

The bird is serving a purpose. Sure, there's cat food, but isn't this just another example of humans desire to conform nature to it's will? There's good things about shaping ones environment, but does this mean requiring cats to conform to human standards?

Is there a difference between empathy, and sympathy? And if applied to the situation, how would they create different perceptions of the event?

Is it possible to have an open heart, and appreciate that cat eating that bird?

I'm down with my cat eating what she kills, but half the time she just forgets about the poor little corpse. Also, I have no problem whatsoever with her following her cat nature, i just feel bad for the little bugger she's taunting. They usually look pretty horrified.

My cat has brought down a bird, the bird is only injured but it cant fly, the cat seems to be sniffing it and hanging around it, if the bird moves the cat attacks it, it seems playful though. If the cat wanted to kill it it wouldve done it by now.

If i bring the bird into the house it will go nuts and bounce off the walls, plus wtf do i know about birds wings to heal it?

I figured i can either bring it into the house, kill it before the cat does, or just let nature take care of it.

Im going with the 3rd option, what would you have done?

:peace:

I would kill it. Nature has no mercy.

That's exactly how cats kill, they get off on torture. Personally, I'd take the bird away and depending on it's condition either take it to a wildlife rehab centre or kill it myself. Cats can let thier killing drag on for excrutiatingly long periods of time, although your cat probably will eventually get the job done if you allow it.

Cats don't get off on torture, people do. Cat's get off on play, that's how they learned to hunt.

Kill the bird silly. I've owned plenty of cats.

i would run away. what i "should" do, i don't know. once, i hit a squirrel with my car and i felt horrible, so i went around the block and ran it over again to make sure it was dead. however, later i regretted it because i thought perhaps it was just stunned at first and i killed it.
another time this animal, i don't know what kind was run over by a car so that its legs were completely ruined, but its front paws and upper body was intact. when i came near to look at it it seemed to be begging me to help it. i didn't know what to do, so i left it alone. later i regretted that, and thought i should have put it out of its misery.

so there you see i did two of your options and regretted them both. where i live there are people who know how to fix birds and do it for free. perhaps theres an audubon nearby.
