Adopted a rescue dog today. **PICS!**

I just got a dog today from a local shelter! She's a pit mix, sweetest damn dog ever, I took her up to Petsmart where I work to buy food and treats and toys and she was licking all over little kid's faces
The folks at the shelter called her "Hariet", but she was only up there a month so I'm definately going to be changing her name. Anyone got any ideas? I'm thinking maybe "Althea". I'll post some pics later, got some errands to run now, but they will be up before long.
She is a rescue dog, 1 year old. Spayed, all vaccinations, microchip, house trained, friendly with strangers and other dogs, the works, only $65, which is great cuz I've been on a budget these few weeks do to a festival last weekend where I somehow spent $180 without really remembering how
But anyways, pics will come later tonight, she's so cute! And name suggestions would be great! (Which the name suggestions might be easier once I've got the pics up, so I'll get those up as soon as possible)

I demand pics! Oh yeah, what is she mixed with? American Bulldog or something? Mastiff?

I like Althea. But if I named my pet that I would think about Courtney Love playing Larry Flynt's wife in The People vs Larry Flynt.

I'm not sure what kind of mix, all they told me was that she was more pit than anything. I'm not too concerned with that though, she's a really cute and sweet dog, thats all that matters to me!
There was another full blood pit that I REALLY wish I could have taken home with me, really big and strong and playful, but they said he was known to climb fences fairly easily, and there is some kids in the houses near me and I couldn't have him climbing my fences.
Most my neighbors are mexicans and more than likely illegal anyways, so its not like they could actually sue me if they got attacked though Nah I'm sure they're legal immigrants, I haven't really talked to any of them yet so I don't know if they're cool or not....
BUT ANYWAYS, Back on topic. Here's some pics!

\
I'm still really liking the name Althea, but I'm also looking for more suggestions. Some of you folks would know the types of names I would name her, or if not just tell me what you would name a really sweet natured dog that looks like that one. A perfect name is important to me

She's cute. Almost looks like maybe she has some rhodesian ridge back in her?
What happened to her tail?

When she was in the kennels at the shelter, she would get excited and beat it back and forth on the walls real hard till it bled. Or atleast thats what they told me...
I had to make do with some self-adhesive gauze over a very small bit of other gauze I had left over from another time, after putting neosporin on the wounds, because I just could NOT find that damn roll of non-stick gauze I bought earlier! But she came up to me about 5 minutes ago holding the pack of reg. gauze in her mouth and wagging her tail

You are for adopting from a shelter.

Ya I wouldn't get a dog any other way. I work at Petsmart, and the shelters bring in abunch of dogs needing homes every weekend and it breaks my heart I wish I could take them all home!
I was actually called about 3 hours before I left for the shelter and was asked if I wanted a free Malamute/Husky mix puppy, just a few weeks old. I turned them down though, because those had owners. They weren't sitting around waiting for "room to be made"
I'm actually planning on pursuing a dog-oriented carrier, I'm just not sure what yet. My manager is working on a plan of action for me to become a supervisor at the PetsHotel at Petsmart, which will be a very nice promotion, considering I'm only 19.
I'm not sure on what sort of career would be the best one in that area for me though. I've been working in kennels since I was 16, so I know the kennel drills like tying my shoes. For right now I'm just going to work my way up at Petsmart and go to school part-time until I figure out what I'm going to do.
Sorry for ramling, its the methadone, it's never worked for me until tonight and its got me goin pretty damn good =P Plus I love talking about my dog/job because I love them both

Thanks for adopting from a rescue - I run a dog rescue and volunteer for a cat rescue, and I'm super appreciative of everyone who adopts
You could try to get a job at a local SPCA or something - or, get your foot in the door as a volunteer and ask them to keep you in mind for positions as they open?
I don't get paid for any of the work that I do, but there are some SERIOUS benefits to volunteering - I get all of my dog food donated (and the food we use typically costs about $45 a bag), as well as all of our cat food, all of our dog treats, toys, beds, blankets....everything. Maybe it's something you could consider It's also really rewarding to foster dogs for rescues - your dog(s) get built in socialization and play time, and you get to help dogs along the way to their new home.
Edit - I just noticed you're from TN. That's where all of our rescue dogs come from....from a high kill shelter called Tipton.

Yeah I know where Tipton county is. I'm not a fan of the memphis area shelters at all... There is NO SUCH THING as a no-kill shelter in Memphis.
I might try to get a job at a SPCA sometime, depending on how long it takes for an opening as a supervisor at the Petsmart Petshotel takes, but in the mean time I think I would enjoy volunteering in my free time. I'm actually happier at work than I am sitting on my ass doing nothing at home, so that would be a great way to keep myself busy while I'm not on duty at petsmart. I hadn't thought of that before, I'm glad you gave me the idea!

Oh we will. She'll be coming to work with me and playing in "Doggie Day Camp" with us at Petsmart once her tail heals up some, she's gunna looooove that! But now we're going to bed. She'll sleep on my bed with me like she's lived with me all her life. I haven't even had her 24 hours and I've already fallen in love with her!

All these animal threads make me want to get a pet so bad. A cool dog or a cat, I dunno. Dogs require so much attention, but they can be a lot of fun too...

Gorgeous pup! Looks like you found a wonderful friend
My cat came as a rescue, we were a foster home for her and her kittens to help the shelter make room for more animals. Of course the kittens were easy to find good homes for but I sort of bonded with the mother cat and ended up keeping her. I absolutely love hearing stories about people adopting from shelters
