 Box Turtles yo

It rained a lot last night and was warm today, so I saw a bunch of box turtles on the roads as I was working. I recently learned that the Eastern Box Turtle has been put on the endangered species list, which really concerned me. When I was younger I collected them and kept them as pets. I found out that doing this was one of the main reasons they've become endangered...
You see, every season these turtles have a specific location which they must reach to breed. Theyre like little homing beacons. When you pick them up off the road and take them 15 miles to your home, you're giving them 15 more miles they've got to travel to bang girl turtles. Another reason they've had a steep decline in numbers is because they're hit by cars while crossing roads.
So to make up for all my years of turtle keeping, I try to stop and help them across the road when I can. Maybe you can too if you get the chance.

yah wildlife is getting a raw deal these days
they have nature preserves in florida but they keep on developing acres of them through loopholes and shady deals between asshole politicians and developers
the poor panthers r getting run over left and right and fight to the death for dwindling territory, really makes me indignant, fucked up time to be alive

i had a pretty cool box turtle back in the day. she didnt seem to want to grow though so it was a small one.
