I think they should illegalize facebook.com.I get into using it habitually with friends at first, and soon it takes over my world. The worst thing...I can't take it with me....It's a gateway drug to the "net" man, I am telling you. And it bounds you to a chair for hours. How destructive. I have made myself late for work more mornings in a row cause of this shit that I am getting a pay cut. Keep in mind, I have been smoking before work EVERY morning for the most part and was never late before. I say we band together and try to get this beastly thing banned! How can the world keep going when everyone's favorite social window is inside a cave and it only has flashing colors on it???!?!?! Are humans really duping themselves into thinking that so much technology in this world is going to save us? I remember the last lines seen in a movie lately-those of a man dying of starvation, alone, stranded: "Happiness only real when shared." I take this to mean shared socially, so that it may be interconnected to the continuum of time that we continue to induce by relating to one another, so that the happiness will spark others, and spread... I feel that with the way electronic socialization has come about, we may be inadvertently setting up a generation ahead for being overdependent on the sole benefits of the architecture of our information systems. Socialized systems that really depend on everything for the most part remaining and being preserved as it is. What will happen if the world ends and a kid can't ask google how to start a fire for warmth and dad was too busy learning financial nonsense (in the way of constructed hindsight) over an internet course to take his kid camping?

A ban? If you lack self control, it is your problem. The remedy should be applied to you and nobody else. Facebook doesn't bind you to your chair, you do. Ban one thing, and your needy, desperate personality will cling to something else.

yea... i think it's a personal issue for you.
i just logon once in a while and catch up with some friends, i can't imagine sitting on it for hours on end and not being able to leave...
the shroomery on the other hand...

Seriously though.. Facebook sucks. I have one but I log onto it maybe twice a month for about 2 minutes.
If you have some kind of unhealthy addiction to it that's your own damn problem, it's not facebook's fault.
While we're at it let's ban everything else that people get unhealthy addictions to, oh wait.. that idea is full of fail.

shit man i have a facebook but it doesnt take over my life. the shroomery does that way more than anything else at the moment. but its not THAT bad. i come here when im bored and have nothing to do. and ill leave when i feel like it, but i dont think its consuming my soul or anything.
people get addicted to video games. i dont see how you couldnt get addicted to facebook. let me guess. are you one of those people with 800 pictures of yourself on your page? and everyone you went to school with, or met once at a party on there as your friend? do you comment everyone 10 times a day?
shit, i have 7 pictures on mine. 1 of them is of me and 1 is of a SHADOW of me, the rest are random trippy pictures. facebook is lame, but i have one just so i can keep in easy contact with people.

Uh, wow, I can't believe everyone of you guys missed that. I take care to point out now that I was making a satire on people who label things in life selfishly and try to push their view of "right" on some point to the masses, makes a huge deal about everything that bothers them and tries to get the government to just take care of it.
I hate needy liberals who can't take care of themselves, they should appreciate the promise of the most private life available on Earth and leave everyone the hell alone that they don't wish to be in their circle of interconnectedness... What happened to the true followers of "On Liberty"? I am for a government that does nothing more than record our history economically, control us no more than to keep us on the middle line, both financially and justly, between total freedom and absolute anarchy; to defend us from those with lesser common morals than our own. I think America is due what it is in right now. If we all really cared about making sure this place stayed on top, we would be quitting our gas habit, starting privatized health care pools, and launching many judicial attacks on the government from more than just two f'ing parties of political thought to wrest control of our liberal freedoms that this country guarantees us in its written framework.
By the way, I rarely go on facebook, but its a pretty swell site. Its easy to keep in touch with my friends who are still far away at college. I just can't stand the "Applications". Some of MY friends ARE addicted to facebook and do nothing else for hours but scroll through millions of useless "super poke!"s and "Pirate Networks".

I can't stand using facebook anymore since it has tried to become myspace 2.0 and is littered with bullshit applications and stupid fucking "features". The second they allow customizable backgrounds I am going to GTFO.

Anyone with a facebook account is giving a few evil bastards a lot of power and money. I never signed up for any of these social networking sites as I see them as social profiling on a massive scale. Once you put your personal information on a site like that you are giving all of that information to a manipulative corporation that has absolutely no interests other than making a profit and furthering neo-conservative ideals. They can do whatever they want with your information as once you put it on there it is their property. You agree to the terms and conditions most likely without reading them but once you accept them you become a wonderful statistic for targeted marketing which is basically tailor-made manipulation.

People can willingly leave the site? Actually, you are wrong. On facebook you can only "deactivate" your profile. You have no right to remove content and they will not allow you to.
And comparing the shroomery to facebook is rediculous. The shroomery does not collate data about your name, DOB, location, preferred products, friendship groups, political affiliation and many many other aspects of your life in order to sell the information to anyone who will pay them enough.
EDIT: Oh? And "nanny statist"!? I said absolutely nothing about about how the state should ban it or anything, I just think people are insane for voluteering all this information to a company they know nothing about and would like people to make the CHOICE not to.
