you can't be saying there's a "fundamental difference" between sour and tangy IF sourness is a feature OF tangy.

they stimulate the same taste receptor mechanisms, and the entire source of flavor reference of "tangy" itself comes from citrus fruits.

Sure I can. Some curry contains shrimp paste, and the result is delicious. You cant describe the flavor of curry as the flavor of shrimp paste maestro.

Also this argument is moot

The arguement is moot because you refuse to open up a dictionary.

Tanginess is defined by sourness. They stimulate the exact same taste receptors. They are dictated by the acidity of a food. Vinegar is an acid.

End of story.

So in your estimation Tabasco would be no different without the peppers? Tanginess includes spiciness

Subtle intent in dialogue is so subjective that it's a little crazy to mince words to such extent. Tobasco is an extremely popular hot sauce with many uses. It has a strong flavor (call it tangy, spicy, sour, whatever..), the bottom line is every hot sauce should have a strong flavor!

I think part of Tobasco's appeal is its history. It has really been around the block, and looking at old history books you may find Tobasco in old black and white photographs from over a century ago when they used old cologne and perfume bottles to store it!

I can get all romantic about items that have such history, and obviously that's not the only kick to Tobasco. If it weren't any good, it wouldn't still be around, period.

It may not be my favorite, but it has my utmost respect. :rocket:

Cop out. You couldn't find it anywhere where the specific word "spice/spiciness" is directly defined in the word "tanginess". You can alter the definition of pretty much ANY word with this tactic.

You can deviate from original definitions as much as you want. It still doesn't support your claim that it's "completely false" to define tangy with sourness.

Did you miss the original post of me saying "Spicy + sour"?

Whats really good is to take a jar of pickle slices pour out about half of the juice and fill the jar with Chipotle Tabasco Sauce. Then set it in the cabinet for about a month.

Enjoy.....
