With the possible exception of Islam, genuine believers in any major religion wouldn't even think of inciting violence to spread faith in their God. You're confusing the taught followers (i.e, those who were taught to believe in God by their parents, but never truly understood what that even meant), with the genuine followers who have on the most fundamental level embraced love and the infinite beyond.
And I really don't see how your comparison to Hitler can compare to me saying that they were doing what they thought was right... and wasn't what I said patently obvious, anyway? Do you seriously think that religious people don't do what they think is right? Comparing them to Hitler is being irrational and sensationalistic in a desperate attempt to make an inherently unsupportable point.

In America, religion and propaganda go hand in hand. They are both ment to control your thoughts, your actions, and your beliefs.
I think religious people do what they think is rite, but they have been told things that are wrong, making there actions wrong.

It's an unfortunate truth that religion is and has been for pretty much its entire history used as a mode of control. But those who would seek to do such a thing aren't true believers, they are manipulative and insincere exploiters of humanity, that any religion would condemn. It is admittedly a difficult task to separate out the teachings of such people from the teachings of a guru, shaman, or what-have you, but to dismiss all spirituality because of this unfortunate circumstance is really a terrible move to make.
Now please don't confuse me for a religious nutjob. I spent over a decade of my life in fact-worshipping nihilism, under the faux guise of scientific realism. I do believe I've followed that path to its very end, and there I discovered the truth that we have no understanding of reality, and thus that to live your life in any way other than what is humanly natural and in line with the pursuit of true joy, is downright tragic. I'm not religious so much as I am spiritual, and what I've said in this thread wasn't a reaction to an offense against my own credos, but what I see as the unfair perception of genuinely good people.

So your saying that Hernando De Soto and all the Spanish Conquistadors, who slaughted thousands of innocent Native Americans, didnt truly believe in god? That was their whole intent, to spread the christian religion, and any who didnt accpet it were struck down, beaten and murderd. But the conquistdors truly believed in god, ive read personal diarys of the conquistadors. They thought they were doing the bidding of god. Now tell me, what kind of loving great father, would allow the needless murders of thousnds of innocent humans in his name?
And the conquistadors were never condemed, they were given praise and were almost worshiped by their people for striking down the demon natives. No, no religion condems control, they encourage it, if your not one of us, your against us. And if you wont convert then you are the devil. It ridiculous IMO.

I think the Spanish Conquistadors were part of an elaborate plot, by the church, to try and control the "New Frontier"
They were nothing more than religious soldiers.

And is thei perception of me any better? Im appearntly satan himself, and im a genuinely good perosn. Granted i partake is some illicit activitys here and there but over all im a pretty good person. So is it FAIR for them to percieve me as the devil? No. Is it FAIR for me to percieve them as a bucnch of bible thumping lunatics? No. But the difference is, i dont think of them that way. I disagree with their beliefs, but i dont degrade them, or belittle them. I just try to go on my merry way believe what i believe, which is not in god. So is it FAIR that I see them as commonly good people, and I in return am reguared as the devil, simply because i dont share the same religous faith?

I figured id make my opinions known just as they did, no harm done. The only intrusion, its when stuff is being shoved in my face, and as for " ranting " about it... I just find it entertaining as well as enlightening to discuss my daily issues with my fellow shroomery members. But not those who make a rather pathetic attempt to belittle me, my discussons and my beliefes. So please, unless you are going to add anything insightful to the ( until now ) pleasant discusson/debate...
