 Three questions in one! What a deal!

Hey everyone, hope you all are having a nice Wednesday. Here's my questions:
1.)I heard warm or hot water in your bong is better than cool water. Any info on this?
2.)I am having one HELL of a time trying to clean my bong's stem. I've tried the salt and rubbing alcohol,rice, and even resorted to picking at it with a bent paper clip, but there is shit all over the inside that is refusing to come out. any tips?
3.) What's your favorite band or song to listen to when your high/tripping/etc.?

#2... Try boiling it then using the salt and 90% isopropyl alc.

1-I've Never heard of this myself, think someone is bullshitting you. What would be the point of an ice catcher if hot water was better? The point of the water is to cool the hit. Doesn't really filter much besides catching some of the oils from the lighter fuel
2-Salt and rubbing alcohol should work. I find that if you don't buy the strong shit it doesn't work all that well. What % alcohol are you buying, try to find the strongest you can. I use 90%. Set the stem in a ziplock pour in the alcohol and salt and let it soak for a long time, repeat if you have to. Why do you want your stem so clean for anyways?....I can see cleaning your bong, but dude the stem is going to get resin after the first rip.
3-Anything chill or fits my mood. The Mars Volta is one of my favorites, Portishead, I monster, Sublime heh.....

something about steam or something, i dont really know i wasn't paying attention.
i just picked up 99% IPA from Safeway. ill try the baggie idea now. this is the stuff inside the bottom chamber of the bowl i have no idea how id extract this too smoke.

I read a few replies on other MJ forums and the general consensus seemed to be that the steam from the hot water mixes with the smoke and it makes for a smoother hit. I've never tried it. Maybe tonight.

I have used hot water in a bong... It is quite interesting, but I couldnt picture doing it every time. You should try it at least once

1)I use ice in my bong water, I like the cool smoke more. Dunno about hot water.
2)I just clean my stem with a qtip and soap. Works like a charm.
Epsom salt and alcohol for the bong though.

My only guess would be that the hot water/air molecules are moving faster and would therefore be more likely to collide with the even hotter smoke molecules. Just a guess.

#1: By using cold water, more water condeses out of the smoke, "freeze drying" your throat as you hit the bong. A hot-water bong humidifies the smoke, and the dryness is what hurts your throat, more than the smoke itself (I think). You can't take as big of a hit with hot water, but in the long run your throat feels better.
#2: Buy a new stem! surely you have $5 lying around.
#3: Whatever.
