 Strange poppy

There is a papaver looking plant in a planter box near my work (i can't remember if i scattered a mixed bag of seeds there  ... i certainly did in parts of the neighborhood).
At first I noticed the plant to look exactly like the papaver's I'm used to growing in the pre-flower stage. I've waited and waited and the plant finally opened up last week. The things is, it had tens of red with a white base, ruffled petals totally surrounding the pod. The petals were arranged almost like a carnation's.
Now all of the petals have fallen off and the pod with the yellow crown upturned is visible. If this is papaver I want to wait until it has viable seeds to harvest it...but am worried that somebody might snatch it up if I wait too long because of the obvious pod on a VERY public sidewalk.
Anybody have a picture or link to a papaver strain they believe my description will fit?

There are thousands of papaver somniferum varieties.
Image search p.somniferum Laciniatum and see if thats it.

thanks...yeah, this looks similar to that. I'm going to chop it in a couple weeks when I think the seeds are ready. That is, if it isn't chopped by another admirer beforhand. It's in a planter box in front of a store on the main restaraunt row in town. Its funny how these things happen.
some p. somniferum strains are really pretty when in flower, for the whole two days the petals stay on
