I was hoping someone on this forum could explain to me how contaminated species are introduced to an outdoor grow.
My theory stands that the straw I collected was already colonized by another species that simply outran these PESAs.

It's likely that the foreign species was already present. You in effect simply cased an outdoor species and they fruited. They probably just grew through the substrate you put on them, which is why they were so much faster than your introduced species.
I don't know jack shit about outdoor cultivation, but I'd bet that your species will still fruit, probably just as well as they would have otherwise. I'd just give them some time.
