Disciotis venosa: What's the verdict?
    #8371283 - 05/06/08 10:41 PM

So can I eat it or not?
Seriously, if I have a microscope and the spores are oval, smooth, and content homogenous and indistinguishable from Morchella ascospores, and if that's all it takes to identify them correctly, then
can I eat it?

p.s. also found some Xerula furfuracea shrooms thought those might be psilo. But alas, no cigar.

Yeah but Nancy Weber PhD, says in her book "edible and choice" and "they don't take up as much butter as the morels".
Plus I've identified it. I just haven't ate it.

"....but I've identified it..."

Look, in the end, the choice is yours- stop asking other people if you 'should' eat it after they've made their verdict. They've made a recommendation not to do so. It would be wise NOT to eat them. One recommendation, regardless of who made it, does not constitute a solid basis for eating a mushroom that might poison you.

If you want to eat it based on ONE person's opinion on the matter- go ahead. However, you should be looking for more authoritative sources that confirm the validity of her statement.

If you want to eat something like that, go eat a wood ear.

Didn't ask you, I asked someone who is qualified, such as someone with experience.
Since you are not then don't be an ass and reply.
Plus this forum is about discussions on Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms.
Don't tell me to stop asking when I am ON TOPIC.
And "other people" HA what? that one person?
Stop smoking crack.
I'm guessing an Aussie, of course you wouldn't know Weber because you are NOT American.
What you guys think is poisonous down there doesn't mean its poisonous here.
Screw this I'll call Stamets. And BTW Weber is right up there with Gary Mills, Paul Stamets, and Larry Lonik.
She's bigtime.
