I'd say buy an old civic or crx and get 50 MPG. Also, how exactly are you going to pack for this cross country trip? And fit everything on a scooter? Then there is the sitting bolt upright on a tiny vibrating moped while cars whiz by you at high speeds...for at least a week...lol.
Edit: pay no attention to only somewhat coherent ramblings that are to come...
Anyway, if you make it, you will probably be famous. You should have a camera crew follow you around on the whole trip so that you can have a show on MTV, then tell Disney that you HAD to make the trip because your ex girlfriend who lives in Cali has cancer and is going to die unless you see her ONE LAST TIME and profess your love. Then sell the movie rights to then and be rich as shit. Then buy your own private jet, hire strippers to dance for you in it while you do blow straight off a kilo still in the wrapper until you overdose and then they make a movie about your life and they make it all noble at the end like thats what you were brought too because you ex girlfriend died anyhow and you thought it was all your fault for some reason.

Mine is the 351 as well and I have no idea how you're getting better mileage than my friends S-10 that gets about 20mpg and thats a 4 banger.

I don't know, but it used to belong to my dad and that's what he figured it at. I'm pretty sure if mine were only getting 8mpg I'd see the needle drop and my bank account empty.

gas prices suck right now. just take the train, its cheap, efficient, and you cant get pulled over, so you can smuggle whatever you want.

dude that woudl be AWESOME!!! Yes it would take you a looooooong time to drive that far, you would end up spending more money in the long run on hotels, food, etc... than if you just took the car, trust me.
I tried to drive a moped from huntington beach, ca to san diego, ca one night... about 100 miles. The moped topped out at about 25 mph, which made the trip take forever.. plus the thing overheated several times and shut off on me. When i finally made it onto the 5 fwy it seemed suicidal to try and compete with traffic in any way so i got picked up by some friends. Small motorized bikes are illegal on freeways, but even if they were legal, it would be insane to travel 3000 miles on one.
nonetheless that would be one of the coolest trip stories one could EVER tell.

The Hayabusa is much more comfortable to ride too. I still wouldnt drive one across the country though.
