I'm thinking about driving to California on a scooter

Have I completely lost it???
Here's a pic of the scooter I'm thinking of buying (Honda Zoomer/Ruckus):

The car I have now gets about 8mpg and I really don't want to pay the gas to drive to Cali in that.
I was thinking about driving through Colorado but then it would be just like dumb and dumber and that would suck.
In my car it would cost ~$1,500.00 in gas, on this scooter it would cost ~$240.00, plus the insurance would be lower than the $200.00 a month I'm paying now.
Any reason why this is a bad or impossible venture???

get an actual bike, not that scooter bullshit.
check craigslist.. there are some pretty cheap bikes out there..
there's an 03 honda rebel with 8k miles for sale here for 2k. i think it's a 250.
decent starter bike.
look for something like that.
or you could.. take a plane! they are cheap if you know when to fly and book it early enough.
or take the chance on some discount last-minute seats on a flight.

Considering you are in Nassua, Bahamas, it might be a little bit of trouble driving thru the ocean.

I see a lot of people say fly, but I really want to see the country and visit old friends from my last trek across America too. I am for sure driving.
I think I'm getting a real bike like drkrobotnik said, I have to get a motorcycle license though which sucks since I need to get a sponsor in Florida in order to be eligible, plus the training costs.

my state you only have to go through a drivers course and written test. training course is not mandatory. i say go with a motorcycle that can carry some stuff. maybe a small tent, cloths obviously. it would be a hell of trip. dont forget sunscreen and chapstick, the wind tears your shit up

Yeah....a 50cc Honda ruckus is going to crap out on you unless your taking it very slow. The cruising speed on it is 25 to 30 mph. You can go faster, but its hell on the engine over long distances like that. Sounds like a fun adventure as long as you have a few grand for upkeep, repairs, and a possible replacement.
If your going to use a 50cc scooter though that is a pretty good one to choose.

Get a better 50cc and I'd say it's viable.
Think of how long it's going to take at the speeds that thing reaches.
I don't think it's too far fetched because I was considering taking a roadtrip in my 50cc I had a while back.
But that could reach over 50 mph.
Realize if you take it, you're in for a unique experience.

I used to have one of those, no way you'll make it if it's only 50cc. If you got one of those more powerful ones, it could be feasible. But a 50cc on the highway?

The ruckus is a great scooter, and you can get them to go pretty fast, but it will tear your engine down sustaining that speed. You really shouldn't be cruising at more than 25 or 30.

Thanks for the info.
No way I would even drive on 95 going 25-30, didn't even think about that factor, just mpg I guess
I'm going with 250-500cc I need to research which bike would be the cheapest for the quality.
