RIP
this is damn freaky... a week before i had a dream about hofmann. he was in a black suit, like coming from a funeral and he was smiling. i'm not gonna re-tell the dream but it seems that my hopes of finding acid may have been buried with him

"Alienation from nature and the loss of the experience of being part of the living creation is the greatest tragedy of our materialistic era. It is the causative reason for ecological devastation and climate change.
Therefore I attribute absolute highest importance to consciousness change. I regard psychedelics as catalyzers for this. They are tools which are guiding our perception toward other deeper areas of our human existence, so that we again become aware of our spiritual essence. Psychedelic experiences in a safe setting can help our consciousness open up to this sensation of connection and of being one with nature.
LSD and related substances are not drugs in the usual sense, but are part of the sacred substances, which have been used for thousand of years in ritual settings. The classic psychedelics like LSD, Psilocybin and Mescaline are characterized by the fact that they are neither toxic nor addictive. It is my great concern to separate psychedelics from the ongoing debates about drugs, and to highlight the tremendous potential inherent to these substances for self-awareness, as an adjunct in therapy, and for fundamental research into the human mind.
It is my wish that a modern Eleusis will emerge, in which seeking humans can learn to have transcendent experiences with sacred substances in a safe setting. I am convinced that these soul-opening, mind-revealing substances will find their appropriate place in our society and our culture."
Dr. Albert Hofmann Thursday, 19th April 2007

"The psychedelic experience - it has a tremendous force to revivify the spirit, particularly because it is not an ideology. It is not something someone 'figured out.' It is an EXPERIENCE. And this is important to bear in mind." - McKenna.
"We're not mad, we're just doing what we want. You rigid thinkers can't recognize the healthy sanity of that." - Harlan Ellison, "Crackpots"

Thank you for finding the key to the mind in the realm of possibilities, and bringing it into the world of Man.
Thank you for transforming my mind, our minds, and the world entirely.
Your Soul departed from us, it is needed elsewhere.
Danke, Herr Doktor.

There was an article about him in the Washington Post this morning. As I expected, it was full of misinformation, such as an account of LSD's criminalization being largely due to hippies fatally overdosing in the '60s.
It did, however, contain an inspiring quote of Hoffmann's, describing one of his LSD experiences in which he felt he was transported to North Africa, traversing beautiful mirages with Berber tribes. And more importantly, the article mentioned that Hoffmann advocated further research into the medical benefits of psychedelics.
Thanks for posting that quote, OMR.

Interesting, I had just went to visit Erowid for the first time in ages yesterday (in preparation for a mescaline experience), and was looking through the signed blotter art they have available for a $5000 donation to the site. It's interesting to me, how as one partner passes, it seems that more often than not, the other will soon follow (Albert's wife passed in December 2007). My many thanks, appreciation, and admiration to him and his countless contributions to human knowledge and experience.

Sad news, I don't know what to say.. I hope that in the future his 'problem child' will gain wider acceptance and understanding.

this is very sad but we all must die and death isd just a new beginning to something no living person will ever truly know until they die, he lived 102 years so atleast it wasn't an untimely death,
he will be missed, but his creation ill remain untill humans are gone,
and to who ever the idiot who said "imagine how long he would have lived if he had never done drugs" [Admin: flames removed ]
rest in piece you wonderful chemist!
peace out Dm

Society has a way of fully processing someone's contributions after they die in a way that they couldn't while the person was still alive.
If Hofmann has indeed died we are going to see big articles about him, and about psychedelic research, in all the big mags - TIME, Scientific American, Discovery...people are going to be all over this.
I am excited to be alive when I am.
That's true. And very well said too. Society does have a way of fully processing someone's contributions after they die in a way that they couldn't while the person was still alive.
