I still can't find anything about it, and something this big would have been in the news by now. Unless the governments know that his death would bring a lot of attention to psychedelics. They wouldn't want that now would they.

Because BoingBoing says so, you beleive he's still alive. I need more authoritative evidence EITHER way

It does seem odd that this story hasn't broken anywhere yet (apparently)... all we have is a blog testimonial?
Albert Hofmann was a great scientist. Not only did he make significant contributions to the psychedelic field, but he also had a very articulate sense of their inherent value.

"Let us add at once that, on the other hand, the existence on earth of an animal soul turned against itself, taking sides against itself, was something so new, profound, unheard of, enigmatic, contradictory, and pregnant with a future that the aspect of the earth was essentially altered. Indeed divine spectators were needed to do justice to the spectacle that thus began and the end of which is not yet in sight - a spectacle too subtle, too marvelous, too paradoxical to be played out senselessly unobserved on some ludicrous planet!"

Google news has a nice alert function I didn't know about, which I just set to email me if anything pops up under the term "Albert Hofmann," so I should know the second something pops up there

OneMoreRobot3021 said: Hofmann's death could actually end up being one of the best things that happens to the psychedelic drug scene/movement since the creation of LSD 60+ years ago. Society has a way of fully processing someone's contributions after they die in a way that they couldn't while the person was still alive.
If Hofmann has indeed died we are going to see big articles about him, and about psychedelic research, in all the big mags - TIME, Scientific American, Discovery...people are going to be all over this.
I am excited to be alive when I am.
that and i have an odd feeling if he did in fact die, there will be a major amount of production like we saw last spring/summer/fall in celebration of his life/death

Erowid lists his death as April 29 2008 @ 102yrs old so I'm inclined to believe it.

Damn Erowid. Sometimes they're wrong, too.
I guess i'll go on wondering because of them. Otherwise, I wouldn't see any other reason to view this as hoax material.

His page on wikipedia has been locked and theres no DOD on the page.

The thesis that I want to advance today is that the drug war and the laws that prohibit the private consumption of certain drugs are unconstitutional. Prohibition laws, themselves, violate every tenet of limited government that is embodied in our Constitution.

It certainly doesn't seem like hoax material... the man was very old. He lived a full life. But I'd like to think that a person of his magnitude would recieve a commemoration by the media, even if his problem child isn't so well-liked by everyone.

It's just "semi-protected" meaning you have to have had a registered account for a set period of time to edit.
