Hofmann's death could actually end up being one of the best things that happens to the psychedelic drug scene/movement since the creation of LSD 60+ years ago. Society has a way of fully processing someone's contributions after they die in a way that they couldn't while the person was still alive.
If Hofmann has indeed died we are going to see big articles about him, and about psychedelic research, in all the big mags - TIME, Scientific American, Discovery...people are going to be all over this.
