This is a bit irrelevant, but despite the increasingly fewer downsides to using Linux distros I love how much open source software is booming of late. It's like one big f*ck you to Microsoft who've monopolised (but at the same time added alot to) the computer industry over the last decade or so. Firefox (browser) FTW!

I tried ubuntu but i was turn off by the 800X600 or 640X480 resolutions. Are their any linux distro's with a better resolution?
Ok, I am a Linux Engineer with over 15 years experience in the business field. I am also typing this from a 10 TeraFlop linux cluster with over 3 Terabytes of drive space.
You issue with ubuntu is common with ubuntu, kbuntu, and Fedora if you use the LIVE CD/DVD to boot and select install from the menu. This is a limitation of the install and takes just shy of an act of god to make it work beyond those settings. (In that statement God is a reference to an act of a Linux Guru.)
If you go and download the CD/DVD install set from fedora or any of the other distribution it should work in higher resolutions.
Now if you decide to go with fedora, you can run the following commands and it will set it up for common desktop use. These will add MP3 as well as openoffice, flash, and the video codecs to play videos and DVD's. These are for Fedora Core V8
rpm -ivh http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/fedora/linux/8/freshrpms-release/freshrpms-release-1.1-1.fc.noarch.rpm rpm -ihv http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-8.rpm rpm -ihv http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/adobe-release/adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch.rpm yum -y install liberation-fonts service xfs restart yum -y install gtk-gnutella.i386 yum -y install firefox yum -y install xmms xmms-mp3 xmms-faad2 gstreamer-plugins-ugly gstreamer-plugins-bad libmad libid3tag yum -y install banshee yum -y install grip yum -y install flash-plugin um -y install xine xine-lib xine-skins xine-lib-extras-nonfree libdvdcss yum -y install mplayer mplayer-gui mplayer-skins mplayer-fonts mplayerplug-in yum -y install gnomebaker testdisk thunderbird screen cups-pdf filelight unrar boost yum -y install openoffice
Hope this helps Cyber

Sure we do, that is why I have a modded play station 2. Then I don't muck my computers up with games.

I have a modded xbox with a 120gb hdd containing all the games I rented
Computers aren't for games IMO.
I'm gentoo fan personally.. I love the way everything is organised on this distribution.. the init scripts are brilliant, portage is huge and overlays mean you can get just about anything.
Now I only use windows for itunes(I have 6th generation ipod and support is a bit sketchy atm for them) and Office 2007 (my college has it on all the computers, so I use it for compatability).

I just downloaded and installed the new version of ubuntu (8.04) on my laptop, and I'm enjoying it right now. I even got the wireless to work with it. I think I will start doing more stuff with linux, from now on.

I like debian the most simply because it is the most versatile (package wise), incredibly easy to install, and almost always works on first boot. The thing about debian is that when installing, it auto detects the resolutions your card can run at and then allows you to choose which resolutions it is allowed to run at (e.g 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1600... etc). If you go with ubuntu, read this http://linuxondesktop.blogspot.com/2008/01/installing-kde-4-on-your-ubuntu-710.html it is worth the effort, KDE4 is gorgeous. here are some Linux guides to get you started http://www.brunolinux.com/ http://rute.2038bug.com/index.html.gz http://www.linuxguide.it/linux_commands_line_en.htm
the thing to remember is, linux is generally stressful if you are new to it. don't let it get to you because then chances are you will get a bad impression and never want to use it again.
