Contact lenses: question (plus: a tip on getting glasses, cheap!)

On my last visit to update the prescription for my glasses, and get new ones, the optometrist changed my prescription from being for reading/computer use, to wearing the glasses full-time.
Now, I got a nice pair of glasses, and I'm sure once I get used to full-rim as opposed to my old half-rim, and adjust to the way they fit and to the new prescription, I'll rather like them. However, glasses are a pain, even for someone who can see fine without them (mine reduce strain on my eyes, but my visual acuity with the naked eye is still quite decent).
Now that I'm supposed to be wearing corrective lenses full-time, I figure maybe it would be better to just get prescription contacts. They don't come associated with a lot of the bothers that make glasses such a pain.
I wanted to ask anyone who might be like me: do you think it's worth the cost to make an appointment and go in to have my eyes measured and get a prescription for contacts? Would I likely be happier with full-time contacts rather than full-time glasses?
Second part of my post, helping those of us with glasses to save oodles of cash!
Also, for anyone out there who wears glasses and needs to get them replaced, or will eventually, you can spend half, 1/3, or even 1/4 as much for quality, prescription glasses from an online retailer versus a brick and mortar store or buying them from the optometrists' office. Normally you pay through the nose to get basic glass lenses with a basic frame, and then have to pay a wad of change for every option, upgrade, or coating. But online, companies often give you great deals and throw in useful lens coatings and shipping for free.
I got the pair I wear now from Goggles4U, for $50. They're ultra high-index (thin), CR39 polycarbonate (harder and more scratch resistant than glass, and inherently blocks UV light) lenses, in a style of frame I like (one of what seems like hundred available from them), and come with UV blocking, scratch resistance, and anti-reflective coatings for free. Shipping is also free, world-wide. They also offer photochromic (the technology that Transitions lenses use) lenses for about the same price I paid for my high-index lenses, which is a steal.
I found out about this company, as well as several others, through the "glassy eyes" blog
They have links and reviews of bargain online glasses retailers, with coupon codes to save money when ordering. I highly recommend Goggles4U, since my order turned out great and I paid about 1/5 of what mine should likely have cost.
I'm really happy I saved so much money and got some really nice, full-featured glasses, so I thought I'd pass that info on.

hmm i just got new glasses, for $220 instead of $500 (which is what one store was charging me). i knew about the online option, but it just kind of worries me not being able to try them on...i ended up buying some vintage frames that are really weird and "one-of-a-kind," but i should someday buy cheaper ones, probably...

Contacts are great! But then, I didn't see too well at all and had glasses for a couple years. Then I finally got contacts and once I put them in it was one of the biggest shocks of my life. It was like a blind person suddenly regaining their sight, only not as much...

I don't even have glasses. I just wear contacts all the time, except at night.

yeah, its beginning to look like laser would be cheapest in the long-run
being able to see in the shower or while making out would be weird, haha

i would love to get it as well, but im worried about something going wrong, and them fucking my eyes up for life, they are bad enough, and I can live with glasses, have for the past 20 years.
Except I am on my backup pair now, which are 2 scripts old, because my newer ones ($300 with 50% off glasses and frames, outrageous) got trampled in the mosh pit during Five Finger Death Punch...it was worth it though.
With my new insurance I get a free pair every year, which i need to use up soon since i have not used them yet this year, which will be cool, because i usually wear a pair for 2-4 years at a time.
peace

im starting to realize glasses fuck your eyes up. i know peoples eyes tend to get worse with age and all....but im convinced glasses are doing at least 30% of the damage to peoples eyes...of course you can't prove it because its something that happens over years and years.
my thinking however is this, with glasses on everything is in focus and your eyes don't adjust as much with them on. so then your eye muscles get weak, and also light gets magnified and reflected into your eyes doing more damage. not to mention when your glasses are dirty you tend to look around it, and you also block out the frames as well, not sure what damage that causes...maybe stigmatism?
at any rate contacts are nice except you can't take showers with them in and you can only were them for so long and also you have to come in contact with chemicals some of which in the past have become contaminated with bacteria that causes blindness...so screw that.
also you should prob stay away from plastic eye glasses, think they call them polycarb like you mentioned. the reason is they are hard as hell to clean, they collect dust much easier, and overall i just hate him compared to glass

my new ones give me a headache, i guess im still adjusting...
ive had glasses since 7, and my eyes are so bad. i do believe that glasses make them worse; when i had contacts from about 11-18, my prescription didnt change that much. but glasses, they always change.
my grandma and i switched glasses, and hers are way weaker than mine. she said i must have terrible vision..

thats another thing i forgot to mention, im not sure if its these plastic lenses or the stupid fuck who wrote the script, but my right eye has deep eye/headache pains like ive never felt before, it happened for weeks/months when i first wore them and then i get it off and on ever since. these plastic lenses are like 2-3x as thick as glass so i dunno

contacts are the shit, but i regret not having a pair of glasses for before going to sleep to watch tv or something cause contacts suck to have to take out, i like to just lay down and pass out
not lay down and have to take my contacts off when i'm done watching tv (anywhere from 5 minutes to half an hour)
i would get lasik but that cut that they make with the laser/tool is irrepairable and given enough force (a good punch to the face) can knock it lose resulting in a trip to the ER. not worth it to me.
once they master it i'll be all for it.

don't do surgery if you do not absolutely need it.
I can't explain exactly why I used to need glasses for driving but now do not. and I thought I would need glasses for reading but through excercising my eyes I do not. I can't explain it except that I did not go for them, I resisted. I guess I was fortunate to not need them too badly, but honestly the vision improved a lot. if I had taken surgery, then what. unnecessary expense risk etc.
and Kodakya those are extremely nice photos. watch out for internet stalkers, you seem to be a cutiepie.
