...if the cars were listed at those prices.

depends on the dealer.. they would rather you pay cash than finance..

dont have much experience but i talked them down from $6250 +ttl to $5500 incl. ttl when i paid cash and had a trade in..

and i got what i paid for on the trade-in on my old vehicle :laugh:

really it depends on the dealer.. just go talk to 'em..

i dont like messing with them usually unless they are cool (in my experience)

try to sell it private party.

what kinda car you sellin? i might be interested :laugh:

i just got a car for 3 k and i got 400$ off for paying cash.

I bargained down a sticker price of $7995 to $5500 walking out the door. But it took me a day or two, and I just went online to autotrader and went and looked at comparable cars, same year/make etc. I actually ended up in a lot with another dealer looking at almost the identical car (other than tint and color) and had talked him down from a lesser sticker price to around the $5500.

I called the original dealer from that other lot, and asked him what he wanted to do. Honestly his dealership was a lot nicer, and the car itself did look cleaner. But in the end I would've been happy with either one.

Just do all your homework, do not buy any car in the lot. Make them pull a carfax if your serious about purchasing. Also go home and look at edmunds.com and the NADA guides, Kelly blue book, etc. Then you have a really good idea of the industry value for your car, and even what you can expect to be paying for the car.

I'd try go go a reasonable bit under blue book, that way I feel like I really got a good deal.

I just bought a 2000 Hyundai Elantra. Sticker was 4000$, I payed 2500$ for it. 750$ of which was for my trade in. (A car I payed 1200 for 5 years earlier)

Id say in general you can always get around 1,000$ off the sticker, on used cars. Just make sure you do a Kelly Blue Book search before buying.

here are the jeeps(i like jeeps) i was looking at...going from lowest in price to highest...the first is quite older than the others but it has around the same amount of miles and is cheaper.

ill have $5000 in the bank on friday but im planning on saving up more. i can save $800-$1000 each month and im planing on getting a new vehicle at the end of spring/beginning of summer.

Just from reading each of them the 1999 Laredo seems like the best deal. I bet you could get out with paying 7,500$ for it.

that's what i was thinking. it's probley the best deal because it's from a private seller rather than a dealership like the rest.

i hope when the time comes, that ill either get this one or something as good.

does anyone know anything about buying a vehicle during a recession?

i dont know but i definitely know about buying jeeps.

make sure the manifold isn't cracked.. if the manifold is cracked (which is a pretty common problem among people who drive the shit out of their jeeps) then get them to fix it or knock the price down a lot..

try to find shit wrong with it so you can talk them down..

i'm thinking more of private party, but i guess it can apply to dealerships as well..

that's where i would try to find a jeep..

my dad lost a bunch of money on his cuz he didn't take care of it.. and he took the 31" mud tires off of it and put some fucking dumbass radials.. which almost killed me going down i-35 around san antonio when it was raining... going 55 instead of 70..

Unless you are buying from an independent car lot (vs. Franchise) they would definitely not rather have cash. They make money on the financing too so cash buyers aren't what dealers look for. It's even rare that an independent would prefer cash. They'll tell you it does, in order to assure you that "you're getting their lowest possible price." In truth, it makes no difference about the price.

There is no set rule about markup in used vehicles (or new for that matter). I've seen it from $500 to $20,000 and the high number was on $50,000 vehicle. The national average profit (NOT MARKUP) per used vehicle is only around $1500 though.

The best advice I can give about negotiating is be prepared to leave. Dealers know that their odds of selling you a vehicle go down drastically once you've left their lot. They will nearly always give you their lowest price when they see you'll be leaving in a last ditch effort to secure the sale. Actually, this technique works for any item that you can negotiate on.

This doesn't mean it is the lowest price they'll take (though far more often than not it is) but the lowest price they'll take at that time. When it's new in inventory, they might hold out if they think it's a desirable piece that they can get more money for. If you notice it's been on their lot for more than 30 days, they're likely to take less.
