A DIY evaporative cooling tower used to dissipate heat in a PC water-cooling system. Now that's a fun idea. It's pretty damn inexpensive, too.
I can picture encasing it in a non-eyesore enclosure and leaving it on the desk or discreetly mounting it outside (no more PC heating the room up in the summer  ) with tubing running between it and the computer.
Yes, I'm a nerd.

Theres a new nuclear cooling system coming out, costs only 24 million, but it produces its own energy, and you can sell electricity that you dont use.
Its made by Atoms'r'us. Its easy to build too......only 12,000 parts
Cools a small city.....or a supertower with 10 dvd-r drives.

They have actually progressed a bit since that post. People typically use shower heads at the top of the system to spread out the water into drops. The downsides of the system are that you have to remember to add water from time to time to make up for what is evaporated and it is noisy, sounding like rain draining down a gutter.

Aye, and heavy water to cool the plutonium rods, is expensive, and makes shitty cool-aid.

That's why I wouldn't want to build one; however, thanks for the post Konnrade. Very cool in a nerdy way indeed. 
I was pretty surprised the temp was able to reach below ambient.

you might as well just make a liquid nitrogen cooling system. that would probably be able to cool your room even :P

nice! I should try and hook something like that up to my laptop (purrs like a chicken) getting a new hardrive for it soon, maybe that will make it stop yelling!
