Tabasco
    #8287148 - 04/15/08 02:46 PM (4 months, 4 days ago)

Tabasco, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Ta-bas-co: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Ta. Bas. Co. .....

I want to inform everyone here the proper way to have a tabasco bottle. It is a little known fact that tabasco will age in the bottle and get significantly better. My current large bottle Ive had for about 4 months now. The taste that rockets out of that beast, is far greater than a freshly opened bottle.

To store a tabasco bottle, keep the cap off. yes, yes, I said keep it off. Ive had much luck bringing out the intense tabasco flavor with this method. Keeping it on might work the same magic though it might take longer, Ive never really experimented. After a few months your tabasco will become spicier, more bold, more rustic, and will start regulating all your other hot sauces.

A virgin hot sauce is like any virgin, spicy flavor yet subdued, you know theres more that can be had with experience. Yet its got that incredible tightness that wont come back, my method teaches your tabasco experience yet also sends it to a plastic surgeon to regain that tightness.

Buy a bottle of tabasco, even if you dont much care for it, use it whenever you want and leave the cap off for extended periods of time. After a few months, maybe less, you will notice a profound taste difference and will understand why I bathe in this liquid every day

I once had a tabasco bottle for two years that I would use sparingly. The color of it changed entirely to a much different shade of red, delicious stuff

Yea it's not notably hot, just notably delicious.

Ive only had the habanero flavor for their other flavors. Its ok, but far different. The original is simplistic genius

Tabasco isn't so much sour as it is tangy. I think this is our fundamental difference then. For barbecue sauce, Im a firm believer in the vinegar tangy style vs the molasses sweet style

your theory would hold true if "tangy" wasn't defined as sourness.

If you are that into it, is there any chance you can grow your own peppers?....Whole "nother" world of hot sauce to be had right there. To be honest, tobasco brand store bought is not the best of hot sauces, altho i do like alot the chipolte, but at $3fitty a bottle, i will make my own thank you very much.

I do agree that ageing is a good thing tho.

you can't be saying there's a "fundamental difference" between sour and tangy IF sourness is a feature OF tangy.

they stimulate the same taste receptor mechanisms, and the entire source of flavor reference of "tangy" itself comes from citrus fruits.

Sure I can. Some curry contains shrimp paste, and the result is delicious. You cant describe the flavor of curry as the flavor of shrimp paste maestro.

Also this argument is moot

The arguement is moot because you refuse to open up a dictionary.

Tanginess is defined by sourness. They stimulate the exact same taste receptors. They are dictated by the acidity of a food. Vinegar is an acid.

End of story.

Subtle intent in dialogue is so subjective that it's a little crazy to mince words to such extent. Tobasco is an extremely popular hot sauce with many uses. It has a strong flavor (call it tangy, spicy, sour, whatever..), the bottom line is every hot sauce should have a strong flavor!

I think part of Tobasco's appeal is its history. It has really been around the block, and looking at old history books you may find Tobasco in old black and white photographs from over a century ago when they used old cologne and perfume bottles to store it!

I can get all romantic about items that have such history, and obviously that's not the only kick to Tobasco. If it weren't any good, it wouldn't still be around, period.

It may not be my favorite, but it has my utmost respect. :rocket:
