Better cold and sunny than cold and wet. It was pretty warm today.:yesnod:

Hi there im new to this site but have been hunting for a couple of seasons (casually, not like every weekend) and havent had any real luck. I know where many patches of A. Muscaria grow near my house (i live north shore sydney area)  but i want to trip! Im considering going to blue mountains to look, but that is a big place. I would have absolutely no idea where to start.

Anyhoo, ive been doing some searching in Lane Cove NP and found these:

i think they are the same species. They were extremely dry, had been out in sun all day so didnt readily bruise although got darker after handling. i found these on my lunch break.. All stems have blue/purple colouring closer  to bottom. Near them were a small bunch of these, possibly juveniles of same species?

Any thoughts? they look nice, but im not experienced enough to ID with confidence. Spore prints coming.. Pics not that great either camera is not working :frown:

My guess is some sort of Cortinarius for the first ones. Maybe Stropharia aurantiaca for the second lot.

Definitely nothing active there.

Yeah probably those blueish cortinarius that people have posted previously in this thread... the spore print should be rusty brown

yeah i didnt think they were right... damn! im planning to go to mountains tomorrow, but hearing that it has already been slammed by pickers isnt exactly inspiring :frown:

If it rains soon i can go on a longer expedition into the national park.. hmm... cmon rain!!

I found some evil looking things the other day also.. here are some photos:

Gills were a brown/mauve/purple. Stem had evidence of an orangey ring but im not sure. Didnt bruise. Stem was purple, greenish and orange. Cap brown but with mauve tinge. Shrooms again fairly dry, spore print was brown.

mo way in hell am i touching these, but thought they were interesting..

Hey, ive recently become interested in Mycology and as I live in the St. George region of Sydney. Ive been exploring the various parks and wetland areas on the George River trying to find some psilocybes. Unfortunetly its been very dry recently and I havent had much success. I plan to visit the Oberon tablelands and Blue Mountains soon in the hopes that ill find something magical. Here are some pics of what I have found so far over the last few weeks.

Specimen 1:

(Possibly P. Subaeruginosa?)

Specimen 2:

(Possibly a psathyrella or similar?)

Specimen 3:

Identified as Coprinellus Micaceus

Specimen 4:

(Possibly a Galerina or similar, spore print was cimmamon to rusty brown, started springing up everywhere in my garden, freaked me out)

Specimen 5:

(Found growing in short grass, nearby dead specimens indicate that these grow to be very high?! Possibly C. molybdites or similar parasol mushroom)

If anyone has any thoughts or speculations please let me know!

Cheers.

I don't agree - I think it's a shaggy mane or other member of the Coprinus family.

#1 looks active to me...did it bruise blue ? the only reason i say that is because of the stem could be a ugly sub with albino gills i have seen a few like that

yea the stem is a bit sub'ish looking ay, though the gills, thickness and cap are much different.
Wouldnt mind knowing what specimen 4 is though.

the cap of number one looks strange but still could be active IMO but my opinions are usually wrong lol

Cheers for your help guys, I will add a couple more photos that I have to help give you a better idea. Specimen 1 was interesting because it was growing next to a swamp just after rain, but by itself, as you can see it looks mangled as. It was so mangled in fact that i couldnt get a spore print from it which didnt help, however, there was another one growing near that im 99% sure is of the same species and i will post a pic of that one too. Specimen 2 also refused to give me a spore print, but it is clearly satrotrophic as it was growing in the same wet mulchy euclypt/pine environment as specimen 1, except present on both rotting logs and the ground mulch.

The last photo is to give you an idea of just how high these so called comatus' grow!

Cheers.

None of the above mushrooms are active.  There is some Mycena and Coprinus in there, and some other random ones that are not active or edible.
