Thanks guys!
The Wikipedia article is surprisingly imformative too- I might go for a wander tommorow and see what I can find.
Will keep you all updated!
PS: These subaeruginosa sp. are what people call "gold tops" right?

Got out for a bit of a hunt today to see what the rain has brought. Around the corner from my apartment neat the CBD I ran into these guys:
I might go back in the next few days to see if there are any worth picking to eat, the Lepista nuda in California are good eatin. I was a little anxious to go up to the mountains to hunt where I would be more likely to find subs tho, so I jumped in the car for a drive.
Near Springwood I found this field of Stropharia aurantica, there were hundreds and hundreds in this small planter area. It was the largest bloom of any sort of mushroom in one spot I have ever seen.

Many were rotting away already, some had been attacked.

I'm not sure if this is a young mushroom that will grow and get color later or if it is a fungus that has overtaken another mushie:

A bit further up the hill I found these beauties and left them there like presents under the christmas tree. They are so cool looking. Someone had run around and stomped on most of them, forunately they left these.

I looked around a bunch more and was shut down in my search for subs. I found a bunch of beautiful Lactarius deliciosa which I bagged to take home and a bunch of other little guys I wish I could identify. Maybe in the next few days I'll put up an ID request if any of the pics are good enough.
On my way home I saw another huge field of Stropharia and decided to stop and check it out just in case,.... and lo and behold what do we have here?

I think these are subs? Let me know what you think.
Now it is home to dinner:

what a haul man, you're set for food and psychedelics for weeks! Beautiful pics, all of them... those muscaria are so perfect... amazing. And those subs and milk caps just look so delicious add those Blewitts and you could have yourself a massive steaming pot of 'mushroom surprise'.

Cooked up two of the whole Saffron Caps last night in a bit of olive oil with garlic and then a bit more raw olive oil drizzled on to serve. Interesting in that the two caps had really different flavor tho they were cooked exactly the same. Might make some Wild Mushroom and Potato Gratin today. If I can pull my face of the ceiling that is.

Fuckin hell. Im envious. Melbourne season still hasn't kick started yet. Rain and cool temps expected this weekend, so if im still empty handed late next week ill be pissed.

Thirdwire- Where abouts in Springwood were those?
If I'm breaking forum rules disregard this post, but I live a bit further up the Mountains and Springwood is no trouble at all to get to.

My active finds yesterday were further up the hill from Springwood. The Springwood finds were not active, just Stropharia aurantica which I have heard are great indicators that the habitat is right for Psilocybe suaeruginosa. It was my first time hunting in the mountains and just half an afternoon, you just gotta get out there and look in the places with the right habitat.
Woodchips, mulched areas, next to roads, parks, walking tracks, not sure where else but reading these threads has all the habitat info you need. Look closely at the photos people post to get an idea of what sort of ground cover you are looking for.
If you are in the mountains right now should be a great time to find some, get out and take a walk, enjoy whats around you, I love it up there, wish I could live there. The mushrooms are just an excuse to get outside!

Sup all.. went for a bit of a walk today came across these beauties um, no clue what they are, thought someone could help me ID em as my book hasnt yet arrived.
I found them while walkin along some dirtbike/walking trails, amongst fallen bark and leaves and various plant debree, its been raining all week and the ground was a mixture of soil, sand and in some cases rocks. the cap is of a darkish brown caramel color and has a nipple like bump on the top. the stem is a much lighter color almost white. the gills are fairly close together and they are a lighter brown color like the cap. they dont appear to attached to the stem. No Bruising was noticed. im not expecting psychadelic anything haha..
thanks for ur time, apologies if this is not the appropriate place for the post!
also, forgive picture quality and sorry for not keeping the specimens in mint condition, as it was my first picking i didnt think of anything to carry em in so i used an old macas cup i found..heh... and it looks like to me they may not all be the same mushroom which is very likely as i was kinda ashed whilst lookin..
fuk sorry for being a noob hey =[

Hey man i think you have a couple of species there as you said... none of them subs sorry and some of them possibly deadly. Do yourself a favour and spore print them all, it'll make IDing a lot easier.

G'day all- here are some I picked today.
Are they "subs"?

Again, sorry for the poor quality. The awful, pixilated quality.
