Thanks guys, I'd decided as such myself upon finding brown spore prints. And I got so excited, too.
So generally fresh subs will not have much bluing on them? How long does it take for the bruising to become apparent? (I found a few promising looking samples but tossed them after no reaction within a couple of minutes).
I do think Subs are likely to be around in the areas I was looking though as I noticed a lot of similar looking mushrooms had been torn up and left strewn about. Either that or there are more clueless pickers out there like me. The difference being though if I found a cluster I'd only pick 1 to check it out rather than *all* of them.
Ah well, come ooooooon rain!

Undisturbed subs may not have any apparent bluing, but generally they will have a tinge of blue through the gills/outer cap edge, maybe a few streaks through the stem. Once you have found and identified a few patches it will be very obvious if they are subs or not
Photos from today's wander though the mountains, will be takin a m8 huntin tomoz so should have a few more pics for you guys l8r

hey all i think i found my first subs today. fistly they were growing around a young eucalypt in scattered woodchips. there is alot of blue bruising on the stems and also around the edge of the caps(only on some). all the shrooms came from two patches only 2 metres away from each other. i think they are subs otherwise i wouldnt have picked them, all up i got about 100 shrooms(hope theyre subs).

i hope these pics are good enough. i will post spore prints when i get them done. there may be more than one type of shroom in there but the main ones look like subs to me and were founf in the right environment. the gills on all specimens range from white in the young ones to a violet, bluey in the older ones. sometimes the gills are almost browny. anyway check out the pics and let me know what you think. if you need anymore pics i can upload more when i get the prints. cheers to all in advance. i hope ya's can tell me they are subs, i would be so happy! ps: i will post habitat pic later aswell!!

For first time maybe 4 decent sized subs, to get a feel for it. 2nd trip double the dosage, etc until you figure out how much ya need/want .
Try brewing up some tea, http://www.shroomery.org/9350/Shroom-Tea ,it hits you harder/faster and for many it is preferred method of ingestion. Fresh subs are always best
Enjoy

FIrst find, not much searching [Re: Gavn]

Went to the mountains for the first time on the weekend for a hunt, after a few searches locally (southern sydney) i jumped on a train (no licence) with a mate and headed up the mountains. Upon arriving I decided to go and check out a track I could see from the station before setting out on the planned track and lady luck was on my side.[image] [/image]

These were pretty much in someones front yard so after a super quick trim with the scissors I was off leaving half a dozen or so to spread there joy.
Me and my mate chomped down four of the larger fresh ones each and had a great trip for about 4 hours, any advice on how much would be a good idea now they are dried out, have a few first timers on friday as well so would like to keep there dose on the low side.
Thanks to all the knowledgeable folk on shroomery who made Id'ing these little gems really quite easy after reading up enough.

Another quick question for any one down south coast nsw, I am heading down that way near where they launch the handgliders , and was wondering are there any problems searching in parkland and the bush almost next to the ocean does it stop the growth of subs?? Any help greatly apprecieted. And have any locals to that general area had any sucess, no specific locations just want to know if I would be better off heading to the blue mountains instead of the mountains local to the gong.

Nice finds m8 Ocean doesnt stop sub growth as far as I have experienced, the coastal areas have some beautiful areas to hunt through. Check your messages

kingeric, are those subs that brown because they are mulch subs or waterlogged or is there no specific reason at all, thats just how they look this time?... congrats on ur find by the way man !

Hey Gavn
I thought they were very dark as well but due to water content i think, I ate them fresh and they weren't revolting like most I have tried I put this down to the water. All bruised blue and prints were fine.

kinergic no probs m8, Bring back some piccies
Gavn subs will go dark brown from being soaked in water, doesnt take long for them to dry back out and give off that caramel/ringed cap look First time I stumbled across a huge patch of soaked subs, swore they werent active cause they just didnt look right. Effects of drought on the mind eh lol
